  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Heat a large saute pan over medium heat.
  3. Add the butter and melt.
  4. Add the apples, sugar, raisins, lemon juice, and cinnamon and saute until the apples are tender, about 8 minutes.
  5. Remove from the heat.
  6. Lay an egg roll skin on a flat surface with 1 of the points facing you so it looks like a diamond.
  7. Lay another egg roll skin on top of this one to create a diamond shape.
  8. Place 1/4 cup of the filling in the center of the wrappers and gather the egg roll skin around the filling to create a pouch.
  9. Tie the pouch with kitchen string and place on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet.
  10. Repeat with the rest of the ingredients.
  11. Brush the pouches with the melted butter and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  12. Remove from the oven and dust with confectioners' sugar.

  • The directions seem confusing

The ingredient list states "1 Large square egg roll skins" - maybe they mean 1 large PACKAGE of square egg roll skins?

Also one of the steps seems confusing/not well explained:

#6 Lay an egg roll skin on a flat surface with 1 of the points facing you so it looks like a diamond. -- this I understand

#7 Lay another egg roll skin on top of this one to create a diamond shape -- I assume not directly on top of the first one! Laying another one on top of a pre-existing diamond shape doesn't make sense. It would have helped to see a picture of the final result!

  • on that confusion issue...

Maybe he meant to lay the second down so that it makes a shape somewhat like a star... then you could just pull up the edges... probably makin a more sensible "pouch"

  • Confusing Step #7

I agree with the previous review regarding the layout of the egg rolls. VERY CONFUSING. A diagram would help, or a picture of some sort. It doesn't make sense as written.

Also, you might include the removal of the kitchen string!!! - Louise

Not much more than an apple dumpling in an egg roll skin though.
