  • Wonderful Autumn Comfort Food

    lilylatte - October 19, 2007 03:16:43 PM PST
A very simple and delicious recipe for those chilly autumn evenings. I used Granny Smith apples and they were perfect. Only thing I might change to this recipe is sprinkling a little extra cinnamon directly on the apples before adding the topping. Wonderful with a scoop of premium vanilla ice cream! Thanks!

  • A few additions....

    iantin%40sbcglobal.net - April 25, 2007 10:36:45 AM PST
I love apple crisp too, but I add wheat germ to the oats, and a bit of whole wheat flour...I also sometimes add rasins to the apples and a bit of nutmeg. Yum.

  • Everyone loved it!

    ali - September 3, 2007 08:49:16 PM PST
I did enjoy making it for guests. I made the topping (minus the butter) 2 days in advance and stored it in an airtight container. Cutting the apples was time consuming so if you can find the pre-cut apples that would be great. Everyone enjoyed it and wanted the recipe. I think it would be fun to make the topping, and put it in a nice container with the recipe attached and give to guests.

  • Just like my Dad used to make

    mtjedscmpgrnd - April 23, 2007 06:57:30 AM PST
This is a great recipe. My Dad made this all the time, and I tell you there was none left when we were finshed. He made it quite often and like I said there was nothing left in the pan. Now I make the Apple Crisp and my family eat it all up also. It is a great dessert.

  • AMAZING!

    chicaloca0069 - May 19, 2008 02:11:02 PM PST
This apple crisp was so good!
I personally added more brown sugar and cinnamon.
It was so delicious my family ate it right up!
Although it was really good, it's more of a fall dessert.
It doesn't really have a summer taste.

We're not big on desserts at our house, but this looks so simple and good. I can't wait to try it.

  • Another variation that never fails...

This is great even with peaches and blueberries. When they are out of season, I use frozen fruit and it is awesome too. Never fails...

  • Healthier than most desserts

    Sue - March 30, 2008 10:23:32 AM PST
I make this ocas. in place of usual desserts, and it's very versatile - could substitute regular flour for other non-gluten ones even, and cranberries, nuts or coconut could also be added.

  • Comfort Food

    mahdee - March 30, 2008 10:01:53 AM PST
When you need a taste of "home", this does the trick. Almost as good as a hug from mom.

For a twist, try about 1/2 - 3/4 teasp. cardamom, a pinch of cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.

If you have no ice cream, just drizzle some full cream on individual servings. It's also great with some thick home made butterscotch sauce. That makes it extra rich and gooey.

  • Try this add-in

    creative_18r - August 24, 2007 03:48:14 PM PST
Try mixing up the apple slices with some grated ginger and lemon zest....It will add a punch of flavor to the traditional recipe...I also tried this with pears instead of apples and that tastes great as well:)

  • My favorite dessert served in Le Creuset

    ambrosechevelle - April 24, 2007 08:59:33 PM PST
Oh man do I love apple crisp. My girlfriend bakes it for me and uses a vintage le creuset iron pan for a good presentation. It is always a treat and I gotta have french vanilla ice cream on the side. My mouth is watering as I type.

I am going to try to make apple crisp myself using this recipe.
