  • Low cal version

    ocean_lvr1 - March 10, 2007 05:06:28 PM PST
Going to try it and cut the calories. Being a cinnamon freak, this looks like a version of a cinnabun. With all the fat and carbs, coronary in a breakfast meal, lol!

Will try it making my own icing by using skim milk, a tad of XXXX sugar and cutting it with Splenda. I also have sugar free maple syrup, again the Splenda type. And light whipping cream to reduce the fat cals. Will also try the light version of the Cinnamon Rolls. Maybe shave a couple hundred cals off, with luck.

Some say, who cares. But my problem is I could devore the whole thing, so I need to make it lighter. It does look good tho.

  • Just a bit to much

    Pat P - August 25, 2007 07:32:41 PM PST
We have made this dish several times (I am making it for Sunday brunch after church tomorrow) but found the 1 cup of maple syrup to be to intense. I cut it down to 1/4 cup and that seemed to be just nice. I am trying it using the cinnamon roll pieces that are out in the 'fridge section of the stores here now.

  • Oh yeah! Dave here !

    David C - April 7, 2007 03:15:51 PM PST
    This is gnarly.
This is for the mornings when you want to eat and have fun while indulging. Add a pound of thick cut bacon for a side, and your taste buds leap out of your mouth. Good coffee is a must. The earlier in the AM is best.
Pushups, then go for a 3 mile power walk, at least.
Mostly, enjoy some food , friends, and fun...

  • Loved it the first time I made it but the second time...

    city g - March 10, 2008 10:05:29 PM PST
The first time I made this I was in heaven. I only had the cinnabons
cinnamon rolls (1 can) and I just cut the entire recipe in half using
milk instead of cream and I didn't have any pecans. The second
time I made this I did use cream like the recipe said with the
same cinnabon rolls (1 can) cutting the entire thing in half and
it flopped. The rolls were not fully cooked in the middle and were
    very soggy.

  • OMGosh

    krasanow - November 17, 2007 03:46:54 PM PST
I made this for Christmas morning last year and was thrilled that I found the recipe again because I forgot to write it down. My family gobbled this delicious breakfast up and I can't wait to surprise them with it again. It was wonderful and easy to make.

  • Yummy!

    belbyshae - October 30, 2007 02:27:41 PM PST
Since seeing this recipe in the grocery store, I have made this 5 times. Each time was a winner although I did find it really sweet and cut back on the amount of syrup added (now even use the Sugar-free syrup). It is so good. Great French Toast taste with the yummy of a cinnamon bun....will make it again and again!

  • Very good, made a few changes

    akutchi_sayles - August 23, 2007 09:04:42 AM PST
This was a good one. I made it for my husband and took some to work. Everyone liked it. I used half the butter and maple syrup. I also used less nuts. A pinch of salt in the eggs next time to season. My version reduces the calories by 400, making it 456 for each serving. Definately easy to make and good for church potlucks, or holiday brunch.

    noreenhornernixon - June 29, 2007 06:09:12 AM PST
Wal-Mart carries the sugar free rolls - use sugar free syrup and you have a great indulgence - and it's easy to make!

Not only is this easy to make...it's taste is the greatest... made it for a father's day brunch and it was gone before I could get a piece of it. I ended up stealing a bite from my husband so that I could taste it.
    Great job!!!

  • MMM...More, please!

    Alicia S - April 18, 2007 03:01:20 PM PST
My kids LOVE this. With our busy schedules, it's nice to have a quick, warm weekend breakfast. Just add some sausage or bacon and you're good to go. This will definately be a regular recipe in my house. Another nice thing is that my 6 year old, who wants to be a chef, can help with the preparation. YUMMY!

  • Good but sweet

    Terri D - April 7, 2007 06:01:10 PM PST
I liked this. It was a little too sweet and I only used on package of frosting! Easy to make and it doesn't have to sit overnight like some of these French Toast breakfast recipes do.

  • lets clear this up

    warwickanimalhosp%40sbcglobal.net - March 9, 2007 03:51:05 PM PST
When stating something in "calories" the "kilo" in front is assumed. so although it is 490 kilocalories, it is to us in the usa 490 "calories". Scientifically you will always see a calorie printed as kcal.

  • Someone really confused people...

    july2400 - March 9, 2007 09:13:47 PM PST
This was stated already in somewhat difficult to understand terminology so I am going to simple it up... This recipe does not have 490,000 calories per serving. The person that said this was wrong. It has 490 calories per serving. Most folks are used to seeing things expressed in calories. Like someone already said, the K in front of kcal is always implied. Therefore, one serving of this dessert is approximately the calories of one king sized candy bar. Definitely not something you are going to want to eat if you are strictly watching your weight. Its NOT 490,0000 calories. If you think about this, it will make sense to you. 490,000 calories would equal the calories in like 980 king sized candy bars. Hope this helps clear things up.

A better choice would be to just eat a stick of butter and wash it down with some Windex...hey yahoo...Windex...they'll give you a couple of cents for advertising! F YOU!

  • It's 490 "regular" US calories...

    SciGeek - March 9, 2007 03:15:22 PM PST
Yeah, it's technically 490,000 calories (1 kcal= 1000 cal), but US nutrition panels show calories in kilocalories, even though they don't say that. Probably because 490 calories is bad enough without showing you 490,000 of them.

1kcal is sometimes displayed as 1 Calorie (note the capital), which is probably how it all got confused in the first place. But suffice it to say that the 490 kcal is 490 "regular" US calories.

  • Goodness Gracious!

    Dell - March 10, 2007 04:50:33 AM PST
Calories are not a bad thing. It's just a measurement of energy. Let's keep thing in focus.
