For a change try it with roasted chicken and a sour cream sauce on top!

Burritos CAN be served "enchilada-style." In fact, this is my favorite way to have burritos. Try it, you might like it.

My family is from Tucson and we've been eating "burritos" this way for decades. Bean, red chile, green chile, and even combination burritos ... they're all great either with, or without, enchilada sauce.

BTW, "burritos" is a relatively new "Americanized" term. When I was growing up in Arizona, we ordered "burros" at our favorite Mexican restaurants. The influence of the "Taco Bell" concept of "Mexican" food has resulted in such items as burritos, "cheese dip" (instead of queso) and, egads, canned tamales!

  • From Scratch, and add your own

I made the recipe, and I didn't have enchilada sauce so I made some. It was easy, chili powered, some flour, and oil and seasonings. also I didn't put the beans in mine, I put some onions, and bell peppers and sliced avacaedo on top when I took it out, with some sour cream, and washed it down with some Kool-aid

  • Fantastic!

I halved the recipe and made it for my bf and I tonight. Delicious! Making a burrito with steak instead of ground beef really made it yummy. Instead of buying cheddar and mexican blend cheese, we just bought mexican blend and used it inside and on top, still tasted wonderful. When pouring the enchilada sauce on top, it helped to pour a little sauce, put on some cheese, then add more sauce, it seemed to help keep the sauce on top. Served with sour cream.

  • So easy and good!

    Kelly M. - May 5, 2008 04:11:24 AM PST
I loved it! Very easy to make.

I omitted the butter, and just cooked the steak in a pan with a small amount of water and seasoning mix. Also sauted some white onion and fresh jalepenos with the steak. I let the steak cook for about 45 mins, just because I like tender meat. Followed the rest of the recipe, and it turned out perfect! I do wish there wern't as many calories, even if you changed everything to low fat, there would still be a generous amount of calories. BUT....think about when you go to a mexican restaurant....it would likely be double. So....I don't let it bother me too much...just can't eat it as often! Great recipe! Stays in my book!

  • Really good!!!

    tootiew69 - April 29, 2008 12:00:01 PM PST
This was so easy to make and very good. I used shredded chicken instead of the beef (I already had some leftover boiled chicken in the fridge). I just simmered the chicken and onion in the taco sauce, made by package directions, and ommitted the butter. I just finished the leftovers for lunch and they were just as good today as last night. Thank you for another great recipe!

    It's called a wet burrito.

And they're the best way to go.

I prefer mine with green enchilada sauce and sour cream, however.

    Incredible.

  • Great are you up for it?

The recipe is great I even tried it myself. But I think a good kicker that might finish off the job is, a drink. You need something strong but at the same time sweet to satisfy a mans hunger, or a petite womans desire.

  • 47g fat?

    halo b - May 3, 2008 01:42:53 PM PST
Nice concept, but I agree w/Nice G...47 g of fat?
You could cut some of the fat by eliminating butter, using non fat refried beans and a low fat cheese(s)

  • Not fatty enough

    Scott Crapp - July 14, 2008 10:31:20 PM PST
1/2 cup of butter is not nearly enough. I'd say three cups would be good. I'd also add 6 times the cheese and about 1 cup of sour cream on top. I say this because I love extra large cottage cheese thighs and want to see more of them.

First of all, NEVER ever does a burrito have enchilada sauce on it...Secondly 47 grams of fat per serving! Yikes!
