I went to the Martha Stewart website and found the original of this recipe. The above listed step #4 is NOT included. It must be from another recipe.

  • Great for a rainy day

    Lovesublime - December 27, 2007 07:07:30 AM PST
I made this soup on a rainy windy night last night. Its healthy and delicious! I used about 2 tb for tomato paste for a stronger flavor. Used 1.5 bags of frozen vegies, 1 package frozen cut okra, 1 fresh zucchini and 1 red potato. None of the vegetables overcooked, and I have enough soup for a week.

  • confusing

    john n - November 7, 2007 11:32:07 AM PST
Sounds like a great recipe, but the ingredients do not mention cream or mushrooms, so I am not sure where that comes from. The last step in the directions is a little confusing.

  • Wrong recipe

    lianatilly04 - July 31, 2007 02:57:16 PM PST
I believe number four was meant for a cream of mushroom soup recipe or something similar.

  • WOW

    pof626 - January 13, 2008 08:25:34 PM PST
This is one of my favorite Martha recipes. The lighting was not too good in her jail cell thats the reason why step 4 is incorrectly included.

    ENJOY!

  • Substitute jalapenos for salt/pepper

    dorsalfin1 - February 5, 2008 05:53:55 AM PST
This soup is amazing. In lieu of salt I substitute a few fresh jalapenos.

It lasts for a week, I reheat small batches in the double boiler.

I feel bad for anyone who made this soup and then followed step four and turned it into a soup smoothie.

  • Great and Simple

    April - February 5, 2008 11:30:55 AM PST
I liked the recipe (minus the puree and the whole #4). It was very easy and very good. I did mine in the crockpot and actually just threw everything in there and slow cooked it and it was Super!

  • Step 4

    Honeylove130 - January 13, 2008 01:23:29 PM PST
I think step four about the puree, cream and mushrooms is just a suggestion for left overs not something you have to do to make the soup.

  • Everybody just relax

    Sam - November 16, 2007 09:10:23 AM PST
You all are funny; it\'s clearly just a typo about step number four.

Also, many vegetable soups use chicken (or beef) broth or vegetarian broth, as noted in recipe.

Had it been called Vegetarian Soup, then that would be a problem.

Love this time of year as it\'s great for making soup.

    Enjoy!

    Galina F - February 6, 2008 05:31:25 PM PST
Great recipe, definitely a keeper. Even my picky husband loved it. I did use a little bit more of paste as one of the reviewers suggested. Skip #4

Yum! I have been looking for a large, uncomplicated, great tasting soup recipe for some time. This is the only one I found. I used this with salad and fruits over two to three days to kick start my diet.

  • Spice it up...

    ellierae - November 5, 2008 01:07:01 PM PST
For a little kick, I\'d be willing to try a 1/4 cup chili sauce. Considering this soup is mainly tomato-based, I think the chili sauce would compliment the taste without overpowering. It\'s worth a try!

  • Good but needs something else

    sfmom - November 5, 2008 10:24:21 AM PST
I like this recipe as its just basic vegetable soup but I add a can of beef consume instead of the chicken broth and also a small can of V8 juice. I\'ve also found that adding some leftover pot roast works wonders also.

  • What the.....?

    Grandma/Mom - November 5, 2008 08:42:21 AM PST
Why are they putting this recipe on the web again when it\'s WRONG? The earlier reviews are from 2007. Step #4 doesn\'t belong to this recipe. And they still posted it again. Don\'t they read what they post?

  • Really Good!!

    michelenfamily - February 4, 2008 03:42:25 PM PST
This recipe is really good. Ive tried to make homemade veggie soup but it comes out so bland, this recipe has lots of flavor. I doubled the recipe and it made alot!! We had soup for two days with a family of six!! ALSO.... pay attention to #4 from a different recipe

  • Step 4

    pjsjackson - February 4, 2008 02:58:38 PM PST
I\'ve done veggie soup with step 4. It can be any type. You can blend it with a hand blender. I have a friend that does this to get her kids to eat veggies they would not eat unless it was blended.

The cream. My same friend adds a bit of cream to her home made spaggetti sauce. Her grandmother taught her that the cream cuts the acid of the tomatoes so you don\'t have heartburn. Believe me, I\'ve tried it and it does work.

    Fool - January 24, 2008 05:44:48 AM PST
When you posted this recipe back in July, you added Step #4, which is completely erroneous. And now all these months later, there it is again. Don\'t you have people to proof-read things before you post them?
