A delicious new twist on tuna!

I was skeptical about this recipe because I\'ve been making my tuna salad the same way for years -- with mayo and pickle relish, and celery if I had it on hand. I followed this recipe exactly, and was surprised at how yummy the apples and basil made it. I even used the lemonnaise and didn\'t detect a taste difference from regular mayo, except maybe that it has a lighter taste. This salad is fantastic, and is equally good on a sandwich as it is all alone. I should add that I used tuna in a jar packed in oil, and I think that made a big difference -- it was yellowfin tuna and really tasty even by itself right out of the jar.
The salad is an extraordinary twist on an old favorite. Good grief.... how in the world did it get so many thongs in a knot??
I don\'t see conspiracy. I don\'t see capitalism. Simply, an adventurous, palate pleasing approach to an old stand-by.
The lemonnaise suggestion just kicked it all up a notch. By the way: sometimes we DO get what we pay for. Don\'t be such haters to higher end products! Every once in a while they make all the difference between so-so and phenomenal!
If you want to eat your mom\'s tuna salad then that\'s okay. The more adventurous among us are willing to try new things and this recipe is the best in my opinion and I have no opinion on world peace or any other topic but I know my mouth said "Yum!"
I was a bit skeptical, but decided to give it a try after reading other reviews. The basil and apple just transform plain old tuna into a gourmet sandwich. I used low fat mayo to which I added lemon juice and ate it on a lo cal pita bread. This sandwich will definitely become a favorite!
1 can white meat Albacore tuna, drain water 1 TSP Chop scallion fine 1 tsp Chop parsley fine 1 TSP Chop white onion 1 tsp Dijonnaise mustard, 1 TBS capers, drain water 2 TSP Full bodied mayo 1 tsp Tobasco sauce 1 TSP freshly squeezed lemon juice, no pits
Mix all ingredients well. Fold in capers to keep from being crushed. Use only the finest bread, such as La Brea Bakery\'s olive bread, or a very good whole wheat. Toast lightly. Serve with freshly-sliced organic tomatoes, butter lettuce. Serve with Clausson dill pickles and organic sea salt potato chips. A very good home made Bloody Mary is the perfect complement to this delectable lunch.

Great variation for tuna. It probably won\'t go into my regular rotation, but it\'s definitely a nice change. I made this per the recipe except used regular Hellman\'s mayo. (I mean, light mayonnaise?.....What\'s the point?...........)
dude, calm down. america is not being \'duped\' by a tuna salad recipe. If you like it, eat it. If not, dont worry about it. A sanwish is not a conspiracy. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Oh for heavens sake, people! What fun is it if we always eat the same thing? Especially for those of us who make lunches for kids 5 days a week, some change is needed. I for one will make a chicken on the weekend and make 5 different chicken salads that week: curried with apples and nuts, dill with celery, bbq with red onion, tarragon, southwest. My kids won\'t touch processed meat (not that I\'d want them to), so spicing up old favorites is the way to go. If you\'re boring enough to be afraid of change, stick to Betty Crocker.
My husband and I are not fish eaters, but we do like tuna fish. This recipe sounded interesting so we gave it a try. It tasted very very fishy even with the lemon juice.
We\\'re going to stick with our tried and true recipe for tuna sandwiches which is:
1 Can Tuna (5 or 6 oz.) Chicken of the Sea or Starkist (in oil/or water drained) Real Lemon Lemon Juice Hellman\\'s Real Mayonnaise Salt, Pepper (to taste) Chopped Onions

For the sad souls with nothing better to do in their lives than to go on an uneccesary diatribe about a tuna recipe: Did it ever ocur to you that some folks might be tired of plain tuna with Helman\'s and relish on Wonder Bread? If that\'s your thing, fine. Don\'t knock those that want to try something different. Yes, this recipe might add a little more cost to an old standby favorite. However, from a value for cost perspective, it still comes out cheaper than going out. Additonally, it\'s healther than an artery clogging Whopper with cheese!
Why is it that people can see the negativity in anything, including a tuna recipe! It\'s not capitalism, just a recipe. Trying something different just might be refreshing.
I already use basil and apples in my tuna salad but instead of mayo I use plain yogurt with a little fresh lemon juice. If you are making a potato salad also add apples ( granny smith ) and thin slices of cucumber. No mayo but yogurt is added with cilantro. Very tasty,
Ojai Cook\'s Lemonaise is almost five dollars in my neck of the woods, so I\'ll stick with Hellmans. I do have a nice pot of basil on my patio. All I need is a good quality bread! Sounds great... and the tip about mercury poisoning is a good one! A friend had a terrible experience with that.
Gee, never thought a tuna recipe would stir up so much controversy! I might try this, and think reg. light mayo with a little lemon juice would work just as well (I use generic brand with canola oil myself). The chopped apple is good for some extra crunch, along with the celery and if you like pickle or olives or whatever... go for it! I don\'t have fresh basil on hand, so doubt would buy it just for making this but could try a little dried herb I guess!
I was eating about six cans of tuna each week and got mercury poisoning. I felt out of balance in my brain. Like MS symptoms, so don\'t eat too much of it.
Anytime you put apples on a sandwich it is going to be good.
To Lynn S: PICKLE RELISH on tuna fish?!?!??????????? I just lost my breakfast! Where do people come up with this stuff?! But anyway............this recipe was good and a different take on the boring old mayo and celery (but please no PICKLE RELISH!)
OMG Why would she not use water tuna and not oil? Calories my goodness. Suggesting a mayo that is not light was even worse. I tried it her way and threw it out along with her suggestion of the dressing. No thanks. Why do \"experts\" not think healthy first instead of big dollars?
Celery maybe apples no. As a lad I was taught that tuna fish has only three ingredients, mayo, tuna and scallions. I might try Martha\'s mayo choice and the bread.
Why take the healthy ingredient and ruin it with the unhealthy prep.
You don\'t need tuna in oil! That\'s an extra 19 g. of fat and the "special" mayo oh please, take a fat free or light especially the Kraft Mayo light made with Olive Oil and add 1/4 tsp. lemon juice or add lemon pepper which is even better to it.
Stop trying to be a "Martha" look where she spent her time a year ago!!!
