  • A favorite at my office

    Cynthia T - December 27, 2006 09:42:39 AM PST
I have made this cake over and over. For every office party I am asked to bring this cake. The white chocolate frosting can be a bit tricky, make sure to fully cool the melted white chocolate or you will have a runny mess. At times I have substituted a regular buttercream frosting instead. It is delicious and moist.

  • An elegant delicious dessert

    mahinalvr - April 20, 2007 09:37:31 PM PST
I first tried this recipe at Thanksgiving, 1996. It was fabulous. I had rave reviews from family I made it for. So what the prep time was just a bit much, but the outcome was well worth it. Everytime I make it, I hear nothing but compliments.

  • Calorie Counters----

    doncet%40prodigy.net - April 23, 2007 07:42:16 AM PST
What do you guys expect with the calorie counting--this is cake (dessert). You don\'t have to eat the entire cake-just one piece. It\'s meant to be a treat not an everyday thing.

    This recipe is good.

To the calorie counters, get a life. And if you have one, go live it! We are ALL gonna die at some point anyway. So while you\'re still here you may as well live! Eat up!!!! This cake is fab!

  • Tastes Awesome!

    sunshine_goldlocks - June 9, 2008 05:09:55 AM PST
This is the only life we get, and I wanted to try this; it\'s has awesome taste, and the frosting is only better. If you are so concerned about being fat, don\'t even review these recipes to just trash them.

I like the taste of the sweet potatoes combined with the white chocolate. I\'m sure that it\'ll win over sweet-lovers.

If you portion your meals, then you can have sweets in moderation. One piece of this is fine for dessert! So, go ahead and try it; it won\'t kill you, contrary to what others think.

  • Try this!

    Habanera - November 22, 2007 12:53:18 AM PST
I substituted a 29 oz can of pumpkin for the sweet potatoes and it worked really well... you don\'t need so much oil, either (1/2 - 3/4 c for the cake, only) That cut some fat and added some flavor, too ;)

  • C'mon!!!!!

Some people just love to hate. Do you see anywhere on the name of the recipe "LOW CAL" Nope, so don\'t knock it! Your supposed to be rating the flavor and appearance not the calories or it would say, "Rate this recipes healthyness".

  • Excellent recipe

    blakta2 - April 22, 2007 11:16:37 PM PST
Wow, this is a wonderful recipe. Anyone who looks at the picture and the recipe can obviously see that it is extremely high in calories. you shouldn\'t include it in a review if it isn\'t something you would eat at all. You should try something that you can actually give a review about such as a low calorie main dish or light dessert.
This is a great tasting cake. Yes, it does require a bit of extra work but if you ask me, that\'s all the fun in baking and its satisfying to see such a pretty final product.

  • Disappointing

    juans_guera - January 1, 2007 03:35:44 PM PST
The picture and the recipe to this cake looked good but thats about all. The white chocolate frosting turned out well but it just really lacks flavor. I absolutely love white chocolate and I thought this frosting would be really good but it really comes out bland for some reason and it doesnt add anything at all to the cake. I think the cake would be better with a cream cheese frosting. The cake itself is good but it does turn out extremely heavy. I think also the cake was missing something as well, maybe it needs a can of pineapple or something. I thought I would really enjoy this recipe but I definately did not. The recipe is too time consuming to make and I wont be making it again.

  • Too Much Fat!!

    Mike S - April 25, 2007 09:11:25 AM PST
No wonder Martha has lost her girlish figure considering she eats desserts like this!. Please! 79g of fat and 1214 calories per serving? Is she trying to kill us? Substitute apple sauce for the vegetable oil, egg beaters or egg whites for the whole eggs and try an alternative to the heavy cream. If Martha truly cared about her guests she would serve a healthier menu. C\'mon Martha ...exercise some constraint!

  • Awful high in fat

    nurit4 - April 23, 2007 03:49:46 AM PST
This cake taste fair at best. The fat is crazy high. Just take a nice stick of real butter and cram it down your throat instead. No really in place of the oil use applesauce and you drop the numbers big time and the cake taste the same.

  • Oh my!

    ... - April 23, 2007 01:00:06 AM PST
This cake isn\'t healthy at all... it looks good but I would only it a little tiny piece of it. It\'s basically high in everything, fat, carbs, and sugar. I am sure there are alternative, less-fatening ways of making this dessert.

  • Looks good, but no one has yet to point out one crucial detail

    jimmyjames050 - April 22, 2007 03:02:59 PM PST
the cake contains 79 grams of fat - per serving! Good lord, that is more than you\'re allowed for an entire days worth of fat consumption. The dessert looks good, but not that good...
