  • Sounds great; tasted horrible.

    Laurie E - September 29, 2008 09:56:54 AM PST
My fiance and I had great hopes when we saw this recipe. It appeared to have all the components of a tasty dish. However it tasted horrible! Way, way too bland. While it had ginger, lime juice, scallions, red pepper flakes, etc., they are not in enough quanities to bring out flavor. We even added more pepper flakes, more scallions, some lime zest, and yet it still tasted bland. The only way I can see this being better is if you reduce the amount of carrots, add more ginger and garlic, and perhaps fish sauce. Something, ANYTHING, to add more flavor. My fiance refused to eat the leftovers and I took some for lunch. Sadly, after eating some for lunch today I think I will be throwing out the remaining amount at home because it is so difficult to eat.

  • very tasty!! With a few adjustments...

    seneys05 - September 21, 2008 09:26:51 PM PST
Pretty much, the soup recipe as is was fabulous. I didn\'t have scallions for a garnish though, so I finely chopped some cucumber and fresh mint, then tossed them with some rice vinegar. A tiny scoop on top of the soup was a nice flavor complement. Oh, i also used rice stick noodles instead of pasta to make this gluten-free.They cook much more quickly, so this is done super fast.

Wow, this looks good. Only one review but you can tell they didn\'t try it because you can get lowfat coconut milk.

  • Mmmmm mmmm!

This sounds so yummy!!! The coconut milk is why it\'s so high in fat. You can always substitute for the lower/reduced fat coconut milk.

  • Light, but delicious!!!

    charagee - April 17, 2009 05:40:47 PM PST
This is definitely not a hearty or filling type of soup, neverthless, it tastes great!!!! I love shrimp and the flavor of the red peppers, ginger and garlic it is subtle and very flavorful.
I was very skepticle about this soup because the reviews that were posted, the ones that most of the one that were positive weren\\\'t talking about the actual dish, but more so the ingredients. So I took a chance and was pleasantly surprised!!! This is definitely something I will make again. I sharedit with my teenage brothers and sisters (who are very tough critics), LOVED it!!! So if you\\\'re looking for a soup that is light, but also very flavorful this is it!

  • It

    shresthad - September 29, 2008 06:50:57 PM PST
It did sound yummy so I decided to try it out. It tasted bland to me as the other reviewer had mentioned but my boyfriend really liked it. I also added more chilli flakes and lemon juice than suggested. I think the carrots didn\'t really do any good to the soup, I might try adding something else if I decide to make this again. It did taste a lot better to me with chinese chilli garlic sauce. I might try making it again with some modifications ... Overall, I like all the ingredients the soup has except maybe carrots ... I think the soup itself has potential.

  • Soup for a nice luncheon.

    Sally T - September 8, 2008 04:40:28 PM PST
This is one of the best soup recipes I have tried and I have tried a lot in seventy years, I did not buy pre-cleaned or pre-cooked shrimp and was careful to not overcook them, also, I cut back on the carrots a little and added a can of small kernel corn, also added a couple of chicken boulion cubes to the water, boy did we smack down on this, and, it did not have a fishy taste at all. What a neat recipe, this will be on the menu for my next luncheon. Thanks much.

  • Why all the criticism?

    lmc.dryside - September 8, 2008 12:52:19 PM PST
These recipes are here as a service. No one is forcing you to cook and eat every recipe. If you feel a recipe has ingredients which are too high in fat, salt, cholesterol, etc....then don\'t eat it! What we eat is a personal choice. Unfortunately, many of these "reviews" turn out to be someone posting their agenda or feelings, instead of telling people about the taste of the food.

With that said, I can\'t wait to try this recipe! I\'ll be sure to post my "review" of the TASTE!

  • Two things.

    Shogun - September 8, 2008 12:31:20 PM PST
    Two things.
Never brake any kind of pasta in two, first sign of a bad cook. Second, angel hair in a Thai dish? Use Thai noodles....

  • Shrimp AND Salmon not high in FAT/Calories

    tieta642004 - September 8, 2008 12:13:25 PM PST
To DUH. Shrimp is a very low fat food. It has high choloestoral but that\'s it. Salmon is high in Omega 3 fats which is very , very good for you. Take a trip to LA wieght loss or Weight Watchers, it\'s a dominant choice for people losing weight. Get educated.

  • It

    pairjean - September 8, 2008 11:39:16 AM PST
This recipe was adapted from Thai traditional foods. The real ingredients I ever tried has included lemongrass too, but no smell of any ginger. It\'s fabulous soup.

  • Shrimp is not high in fat...

    luckydai - September 8, 2008 11:02:25 AM PST
Despite the comment from another reviewer, the fat in this recipe isn\'t from the shrimp. It\'s from the coconut milk which has a lot. But as was said, you can always substitute lowfat coconut milk and it will still be good.

I use a recipe pretty close to this using steamed tofu instead of shrimp (Tom Kah). I use regular coconut milk because my family enjoys the the extra creaminess. Why not? Just don\'t go crazy with the portions and skip dessert.

(BTW, shrimp is actually very low in fat. You\'d have to eat at least almost a pound to get than 5 grams of fat. On the downside, it\'s really high in cholesterol but still diet friendly if you want to indulge in a handful)

  • Coconut Shrimp Soup

    deliberatedesign - September 8, 2008 10:47:48 AM PST
Recipe is great but all the fat is in the coconut milk. I used half coconut milk and half fat-free evaporated milk. It was probably a little less coconut-intense but half the fat.

  • This was really good just the way it is written

    Noelle B - September 8, 2008 11:14:27 AM PST
It is about time everyone in this nation stopped taking the word of the vegetable oil industry about coconut oil being bad for you and looked it up on the internet themselves. Coconut oil is one of the healthiest substances you can injest. Your body needs saturated fats. Coconut oil raises metabolism, kills parasites, removes and retards wrinkles, and will help you lose the weight, not put it on. Not to mention it is a health tonic for many ailments that people in this nation complain of. Look up Dr. Bruce Fife and read any of his material. I can almost guarantee you will change you mind about this most beneficial oil.

    Lou - September 8, 2008 10:44:38 AM PST
Of course this meal will be high in fat, the main ingredient is shrimp!!! DUH!!! Perhaps you were thinking it would be low in cholesterol too. Not all fat is bad for you, while you\'re at it stay away from Salmon too, it is high in fat also.
