  • Quick, Tasty Comfort Food

    Gwamma - October 26, 2007 05:12:23 PM PST
I agree I hate the picture, but I gave the recipe a try. It was basically a huge cheeseburger. From the billions of dollars being made selling cheeseburgers, I\'d say I\'m not alone in enjoying this taste.
It\'s a Kraft recipe, so expect them to suggest their own products. I used a 93% fat free ground beef, whole wheat saltine crackers, a French dijon mustard, and of course the ketchup I had on hand topped off with Colby cheese. Next time I\'d like to add some onions and maybe a little chopped dill pickle. You can make this as healthy or as fat full as you wish. It\'s simple enough to substitute low fat cheese and low carb .ketchup. I already substituted healthier meat and crackers. As far as the sides, I did jasmine rice and a mixture of Birds Eye Steamfresh Vegetables. With forty minutes in the oven, there\'s no need for a quick rice as a side. If you\'re a fries kind of a person, go for fries and maybe cole slaw with it.
Easy and basic is not evil. Every night doesn\'t have to be a Beef Wellington night.

  • Yuk!

    mama june - October 27, 2007 10:13:23 AM PST
I agree with the other reviewer that said this looks like dog food
and the topping also looks fake - or just plain gross!

I like meatloaf but this one is a turn off big time. It so needs
jazzing up to begin to make it even look like something I would
    want to try.

Sorry for the rough review but I had to be truthful.

  • Meatloaf!

    uncleyakima - February 18, 2008 08:07:05 AM PST
This was a hit at my house. I changed the recipe a bit. I didn\'t use the ketchup, and used wostershire sauce instead. Next time I wll also add horse radish and finely chopped red onion. I will make this again and again.

  • Yummy.... but I have an even better one.....

    tinks1107 - January 14, 2008 10:15:24 AM PST
This sounds really good... but I think everyone has their own meatloaf recipe that they like... I have my grandmothers and I never stray from the core ingriedients! But I take cheese and cut it into small rectangular blocks and push them down into the meatloaf. This way it melts inside as you cook it and you get a bite of melted gooey cheese in your bite! It is delicious. Also, I cut open my favorite french or sourdough bread loaf, hollow out the bottom half, and form the meat into the bottom half, inserting the cheese and then placing the top half of the bread back on top! You then want to wrap the bread in foil and cook for about and hour. When it is done you just slice the bread and enjoy! my kids love this one!

  • Meatloaf picture needs quick fix!

    RicketyOldBat - October 25, 2007 02:52:22 AM PST
This picture looks like a can of dogfood with something icky and yellow on it. Find a little colorful platter, put that loaf on it, arrange a few baked potatoes around it and place parsley strategically. If there is no real parsley, potatoes or platters, go to the Yahoo Cyber Cupboard and find some help there. We eat with our eyes! and my eyes said no thanks.

  • Hmmmm....

    norma_halverson - October 26, 2007 12:27:50 PM PST
Well, it sounds kinda good. I like meatloaf, but I think I would make some changes to this, such as using a cheese sauce rather than ketchup and cheese. I would probably add some spices as well and what not, but overall, sounds like it might be good with some tweaks.

  • Excellent and easy!

    tm501 - March 18, 2008 02:39:27 PM PST
We just got done having this for dinner and it was great. I have HATED meatloaf all my life and finally found 1 I will eat. It may look gross, but it tastes good! For the cheese I used 1/2 Monteray Jack and 1/2 Sharp Cheddar. Next time I\'ll probably put some parsley and onion/garlic salt in it. This was a very quick, easy, and tasty recipe.

  • Not bad for kids who love cheese

    BB - January 15, 2008 08:39:11 AM PST
It was a good idea but the cheese burned while cooking in the oven. I know...oven varies but it didn\'t on both of them I used at home and at school. I am a special education teacher for the deaf children.
Anyway....I do suggest trying this idea and it works...thanks to Abby!
Follow the recipe but lay down the first half of meatloaf in pan. Add a good thick layer of cheese....Velveeta\'s the best....across from side to side. And then lay the second half on top. Remember...oven varies....maybe 10 minutes difference to get the cheese melting in the middle while the meatloaf is cooked and browned.
You might want to add some tomato sauce or ketchup on top in the last minute or so.
Debbie used a squirt bottle of mustard and went zig-zag across the top of the meatloaf and added some pickles!
The kids loved this idea! Try it!!

    reniatgrgl - December 8, 2007 12:39:01 PM PST
I\'m not a meatloaf fan but was looking for recipes to try that my kids might like and they loved it. No leftovers!!!
You shouldn\'t let pictures decide to try or not. Cook it yourself and see what it really looks like. Come on people!

This is a do again recipe for my family. You don\'t have to use kraft products for those who have a problem with it.

  • will try it but with some minor changes that I feel would make it more appealing

    Mary P - October 28, 2007 02:07:08 PM PST
I have to agree the picture it not very appealing. However I have made this and it was good and filling. But I did add some different items to add flavor. Instead of saltines (lots of sodium) I used Italian bread crumbs, instead of ketsup I used a can of Campbells Tomato soup both in the mixture and on top then finished it off with slices of Kraft Cheddar cheese (either shredded already or slices, your choice). I used the mustard and also added some green onion. Also I to would place in on a platter with maybe a bed of iceberg lettuce, some potatoes and carrots with sides of additional mustard and ketsup.

  • Not appealing x 2

    Tina - October 28, 2007 09:29:07 AM PST
I clicked on this recipe because I love meatloaf, and I love cheese... how could combining the two be wrong? But:

When I think of meatloaf, it has onions and herbs and comes with mashed potatoes and gravy.

When I want a cheeseburger, I want it MEDIUM RARE with some crisp lettuce and a crusty roll.

This comes off as a giant really dry burger without a roll. Why bother?

  • IT IS CHEESE!

    shadowlp06 - October 28, 2007 01:02:23 AM PST
Jeez, you guys find anything to pick at...the meatloaf has CHEESE on it, it\'s not some FAKE topping...wow, you put CHEESE on your CHEESEburger, so why is this such a hard concept for you to grasp? Dang, I thought Siskel and Ebert were bad! This is quite a tasty change from the same old meatloaf.

  • Pic needs a bit of color

    Recipehound - October 27, 2007 10:25:21 PM PST
I haven\'t tried this recipe yet, but if I were going by looks, I wouldn\'t. It looks sooooo pale. The meat actually looks underdone and unappealing. Sorry!

  • Ickk!

    Ronice - March 17, 2008 01:45:16 PM PST
This recipe does not look appealing at all. What will give the meat moisture? Mustard? I use the meatloaf recipe from the Lipton Onion Soup box and it comes out juicy and flavorful. Also, Tyler Florence on Food Network makes a great-looking meatloaf that I haven\'t tried yet. It\'s got to be better than a hunk-o-dried-up meat with cheese melted on it.

  • Looks Gross, But Good Reviews

    kapkan99 - October 27, 2007 03:50:29 PM PST
I agree. It does look pretty gross. I love meatloaf but wasn\'t even going to try it until I read the reviews. For those who said no way they should read what the first few people said. I\'m definitely going to try some onions and dill pickles in it.
Grey Poupon-GROSS. Since it is suppose to taste like a cheeseburger then I\'m putting regular yellow mustard in it. Come on people who ever uses all the brand names in any recipe? I use my own preferred brands whenever I cook.

  • Everyone here at the trailer park loved this (Part 2)

    Ping - November 6, 2007 06:53:56 AM PST
It\'s a nice change from spam and ketchup. And I find it comfortable to chew, even if not many of my top and bottom teeth exactly line up. Way to go, Kraft! Finished the menu with some Kraft mini marshmallows that I found at the back of my glove compartment. (p.s. does anyone have any wine pairing suggestions? Does Kraft make a nice pinot grigio drinkin\' box? Would love to hear your thoughts.)
