A simple Shake 'n Bake is all it takes to transform plain chicken breasts into the crispy centerpieces of these saucy, hearty Italian sandwiches. They will satisfy the entire family.
Jazz It Up
For an authentic, yet easy topping to your sandwiches, saute 1 each red and green pepper and 1 small onion, sliced, in nonstick skillet sprayed with cooking spray until tender.
Serving Suggestion
Serve sandwich with a green salad tossed with KRAFT Zesty Italian Dressing.
The recipe is great, tastes delicious. Only problem is, Shake n Bake and other boxed foods contain too much salt.
You can make your own breading & season it to taste, using celery salt.

This is a great recipe. The problem I see with folks that like to diss this recipe and others from major food packagers is that they are eating the same thing at the expensive restaraunts and don\'t know it!
Shake \'n Bake is bread crumbs, flour and seasoning and simple directions. Sauce in a jar is great...just read the labels if you have to watch "certain" ingredients. Anyway, this is a good parmesan chicken sandwich.
For the nay-sayer\'s....make it all from scratch if you want to.

This is a decent recipe and will produce a good tasting, relatively nutricious meal; but you can make it even better (tastier and healthier) by substituting home-made pasta sauce for the jarred sauce and Italian breadcrumbs for the Shake-n-Bake. We use the Vigo brand of Italian seasoned bread crumbs, but other brands may be just as good - any will likely taste more authentically Italian than Shake-n-Bake, and be less expensive to boot. For the home-made pasta sauce, combine one 4-oz can of tomato paste with three 8-oz cans of tomato sauce and 8 ounces of water, then add spices to taste. We use garlic salt, basil, and a little oregano - you may like to add onion, peppers, and other things depending on your personal tastes. If the paste and sauce are a little too tart for you, you can add a few dashes of cane sugar to take the edge off. This was my Italian Grandmother\'s recipe and it\'s delicious. It can be a very healthy maranara sauce, or you can add lean-meat meatballs, sausage, or other meats to make a meat sauce that\'s only slightly more fattening (I recommend using very lean cuts, previously cooked and drained of fat before adding to the sauce - microwaving for a few minutes works well in this regard). Mix it all together, simmer the sauce over a low heat for an hour or so, and presto! - better sauce than you\'ll ever get from a jar. It keeps well for two weeks in a covered container in the fridge, or you can portion it out and freeze it for quick use months later.
