  • You will LOVE this cake

    Lacy - August 15, 2007 12:12:38 PM PST
I bught the book, "the cake mix doctor" and believe me this recipe is what the book talks about. Just adding something unusual to the mix makes it seem made from scratch. This cake is no exception. Moist, tender and oh so good.

  • Amazing...

    muffalump - August 13, 2007 07:39:01 PM PST
If I wasn't a chocoholic before I tried this, I would be now. We have been making this cake for years. Amazing... You'd never know it was this easy. I usually make it in a bundt pan, and blow the calories right out the window and melt a dairy milk chocolate bar and drizzle it over the top. My kids go nuts when they see this one coming.

And rdsnack - you said "This recipe is a fake, sorry to say. It is there for the sake of the industries that process food, like Kraft" ... Honey - if you don't like manufacturers like Kraft, whatcha doin' here! This is their web site! What do you want them to promote - Betty Crocker? If you want 'from scratch' recipes, google 'em.

  • THIS RECIPE HAS BEEN ADDED TO MY STACK OF FAVORITES!

    Midge M - August 25, 2007 03:42:17 PM PST
The cake was moist, chocolatey, delicious and rose so high in the pans that I was concerned about it dripping out (but it didn't). I must say that the frosting recipe was so easy and so good. I like more frosting on my cakes so I may increase the frosting ingredients by 1/2 for the next cake. Once assembled with the addition of toasted almond slivers, may cake would have made a beautiful presentation for any occasion. By the way, before measuring the 1/2 cup of waterf or the cake, I put 1 tablespoon each of vanilla and almond in the measuring cup then filled the remaining 1/2 cup with water. I love the flavor combination of almond and chocolate. If you love chocolate, you'll love this recipe!

  • VERY GOOD! AND EASY!

    Jesse - August 22, 2007 10:22:15 PM PST
Ok, so I suck at baking- and cooking in general, but I love chocolate cake and decided to make this. The cake itself is thick and moist and delicious!! However, the icing is a bit bitter-sweet for me, I would use half bittersweet and half milk chocolate for the icing. Awesome cake, very easy!

  • Must have!

    reussjl05 - August 13, 2007 09:57:33 AM PST
This is a must have recipe for any collection. No one will know how easy it was to make. I like the fact you can substitute with lower fat/sugar ingredients. Take this to a bake sale and see what happens!!! People will be fighting over it!

  • Sweet

    Carley - June 23, 2008 11:09:07 AM PST
Well, I'm 13 and I'm an amatuer baker. I made this cake for my parents annaversiry and birthday. It's good. Very moist and sweet. A little to sweet. The cake itself is overly sweet because of the oil in it. I would recommend reducing the oild content to about 1/3 cup.

There was one thing though that I just oculdn't get over. The icing. WAY to sweet. Now, I'm a teenager and I love sweet and sugary stuff. But this was overly sweet. I oculd only have small pieces because it was overly sweet.

If you actually read this, you'll probly think "ok well then I won't use the icing". Uh... no. This cake NEEDs icing. Just not one so sweet. I wouldn't recommend the out of the can icing, those things are disgusting. But I would advise strongly to either use less oil and less icing or to just make a different icing all together.

Another thing, I used chocolate chips, which in my opinion is better because you cna mix the flavors. The recipes calls for semi sweet chocolate chips. I can't follow directions, I used semi sweet as well as dark chocolate which made the cake a lot better in my opinion.

(Wow that was a long review.)

I hate to say it but some things that come out of a package or mostly out of a package can actually be better than from scratch. I made the oreo pie off of the nabisco website and it was awesome. This one looks wonderful as well and I LOVE Chocolate. When I get a chance I will try this recipe out since it is way to late right now.
