  • Too light on ingredients

    Chance D - April 2, 2007 11:12:42 AM PST
That\'s a pretty plain stir fry. Add some water chestnuts, some snap peas and a little bit of chopped zucchini and you\'ll be in business. I\'d also recommend adding a quarter teaspoon of cayenne to give it some kick. None of these things will drastically increase caloric or fat content, and it will certainly liven the dish up.

  • Looks Good to me.

    NIKKI - April 2, 2007 02:21:25 PM PST
Normally, I am a veggie or a fruit eater, but my companion is a meat eater and I don\'t like to cook a lot of big meals so I try to balance it out. This tastes good with steamed rice. and the recipe is flexible enough so I can add other vegetables with it.

  • Needs more ingredients!

    caribearkiss - April 2, 2007 03:04:52 PM PST
First of all, meat is healthy for you... everyone needs protein. You can get protein other ways but that doesn\'t make meat a bad thing...

Anyway, I usually add mushrooms, bok choy, broccoli.... if there\'s a asian food section i\'ll see whatever they\'ve got then pick and choose more things to add ;)

I also have made a sauce for a long time... all you do is mix cornstarch with water (before cooking, so you can mix it evenly and not make it lumpy) and add soy sauce to it... I dunno how much I use, I can kind of tell by the color if there is too much or too little soy sauce in it.

Then you just add it when all your ingredients are done cooking... maybe add some fake crab meat at this point as well and wait for the sauce to thicken....

I agree it could use a few more veggies....but for a more authentic taste use sesame seed oil for flavoring.....

  • We all loved it!

    tracy.mcardle - October 12, 2009 12:19:35 PM PST
This is a good basic recipe to make stir fry. When I see an ingredient list with 2 or more things I\\'ve never bought, heard of or don\\'t have on hand, I pass it by until I need a \\'special\\' recipe. I rarely get back to it.
The hoisin sauce isn\\'t too expensive and can be used for other dishes. Dipping chicken tenders is a fave at our house.

  • Personally

    flute4life1992 - March 3, 2008 02:36:12 PM PST
Personally it looks good to me. I am a big fan of chinese food and I say it looks perfect. Also, if your not extremely hungry, you don\'t have all of those extra "things" in the dish as well.

  • Perfect

    Michael Thomas - January 16, 2008 07:05:40 PM PST
What are you guys talking about? Zucchini? Rasberry? Those don\'t belong in stir fries. This is a 15 minute recipe and it\'s a good one.

  • what?!

    jennyhwhite - January 16, 2008 05:53:33 PM PST
Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing?! I hardly ever use anything but soy sauce in my stir fries. This is a great recipe to use whatever veg you have in the cupboard. Carrots, onion and pork sounds too boring to me.

  • Add extras

    John Q - January 16, 2008 05:33:59 PM PST
Carrot should be left out. It\'s there because of the coloring. I use water chestnuts and bamboo shoots. Black forest mushroom can be added also. I use peanut oil and a touch of sesame oil mixed in.

  • NEED MORE INGREDIENTS!!!

    big_shorty4life619 - January 16, 2008 04:22:28 PM PST
i think that this is a good build-on recipe. its flexible because its very basic. i personally would add some water chesnuts, asparagus (which, contrary to poplular belief, actually has a good flavor), broccolii, some sliced steak, and some garlic. it may have a diffrent nutrional value, but i really dont care.

  • STOP BASHING THE VEGGIE EATERS

    wolfe_mandi - May 28, 2007 04:58:04 PM PST
A few of you have bashed the vegetarian for her views... look she didn\'t try to push her views on anyone, She simply stated a fact about herself... She dodn\'t say there was anything wrong with eating meat simply that she didn\'t usually eat it. Why are you bashing her?

As for the recipe it needs more veggies and spices, but it is a good base to build on.

  • Who do you think you

    digorymuck - January 16, 2008 05:46:10 PM PST
I\'m sure the Chinese commonly use balsamic viniagrette when preparing their meals, almost as much as they use
    Velveeta cheese.

It\'s ridiculous how many recipes there are on the internet that claim to have an ethnic origin but are actually just crappy American knock-ups that taste nothing like the original.

  • Put in a bit more

    tiglg312 - June 4, 2007 01:32:12 PM PST
I love to make a stir fry, but i always use chopped up chicken breasts and then I add a bag of frozen veggies and zuccinni, plus a tbls of stir fry mix. ummm so yummy, I love it. plus, I add some steamed rice and an eggroll, forget calories, this meal is great tasting, although I don\'t know how it would do calorie wise, but it is soooo good. • Tastes terrible...

    Sheldon H - June 4, 2007 01:30:34 PM PST
Normally I like stir fry of all kinds, but this just plain tasted bad. I don\'t know if it\'s the hoisin sauce, or the Italian dressing, but I couldn\'t choke it down. I suggest following the recipe, but using a soy sauce mixture as a replacement. Pork with Italian dressing is a sacrilege anyway. LOL

  • Why Does Every Recipe Have Meat?!?

    menmyteddy13 - April 2, 2007 03:41:12 PM PST
I agree with the previous reviewer, meat is not all that good for you! I am a fellow vegetarian here, and I foolishly click the "7 simple Suppers" article every week just HOPING there will be a decent vegetarian meal for me to try, but no.

Further more, the above recipe looks absolutely disgusting. The Green Giant Create A Meal frozen kits are easier and more appealing than the above. So if you want simple and good - buy one of those.
