so delicious and easy!
tif_tif042 - January 12, 2007 05:35:06 PM PST
So easy to make, I substituted ground turkey and ketchup in the recipe. Still came out great, and my husband loved it! Heres a tip- Mix everything with your hands in a medium bowl, and when you are done mixing, just turn the bowl upside down in the baking dish. This makes the meat stick together so it is easy to make a loaf shape!
I made this for the first time, I have tried several recipes, but this one is the best. It is so easy and everyone raved over it. It seems to not have as much greese as other meatloafs. Also, I changed up the BBQ sauce top by using the 1/4 cup of the BBQ sauce and addinig to it 3/4 ketchup (it was more traditional) to spread over it.
This is a good ol\' basic favorite gone low-cal. It is very low in carbs and sugars, but the fat is a little high. The use of turkey burger instead of ground beef would bring that fat level down to where those who are watching their fat intake would feel comfortable. Also, you can add all sorts of finely chopped veggies, such as carrots, celery, onions, green and/or red sweet peppers, chili peppers, etc., for extra crunch and flavor without adding to the calorie value much at all.
Very good recipe! Follow the directions though. It seems like a lot of water to add, but do not cut it down. I would highly recommend this recipe. something else to try. Take this recipe and divide it into 7 to 8 mini loafs. perfect for leftovers!
We were invited to my daughter and her new husband\'s house for a meatloaf dinner. Her husband had prepared the whole meal. The meat loaf was the most delicious, moist meat loaf we had ever eaten. When I asked what the secret flavors were, this is the recipe he gave me. The only difference, they used the savory herb stuffing mix. I\'ve made it several times since. We love it!!
OMG...this is the best meatloaf recipe ever! So simple and tasty. When it\'s cooking, the smell will drive you crazy-I sat in the kitchen staring at the oven door just waiting for the timer to ding!

Meat Subs: Mixture of ground beef and turkey (if you don\'t like the texture of ground turkey alone).
Also ground turkey tends to be flavorless. Try liptons Taco seasoning. Its has the right amount of flavor for meatloaf plus a little more spice).
Ground Chicken
My favorite is adding italian sausage. Mmmm.
Sauce subs: Ketchup is always quick and easy. Barbecue sauce Tomatoe Paste (you might want to add some salt and paparika) Salsa (some very thick sauce like picante) Cream of Mushroom sauce...Mmmm
Stove Top Sustitute: Bread Crumbs Crackers Croutons (same as stove top)
I have made this recipe but i added ketchup instead of bq sauce and also added onions. It was sooo good and very moist. My boyfriend is not really keen on meatloaf , but it goes fast when i make it using this recipe. Also after meatloaf was done, i put shredded cheese on top(1/4 cup) and put it back in oven till cheese melted.( 2 min) AND to the guy that wanted to know what divided meant, it means just that. for example in this recipe i put some of the ketchup in the meatloaf itself and i put the rest of the ketchup on the top of meatloaf before i put it in the oven. hope this helps you out.
This is a great recipe. Instead of water, I used canned chicken broth and a little garlic powder. Now my family wants this made a couple times a month.
Make sure you are using extra lean turkey or you might as well be using beef (if you are counting calries that is). The reg. and lean ground turkey often include the skin and dark meats which raises the calories substantially. Check your labels, but if you are using 4% lean ground beef it is far better than the lean turkey. Just an fyi.
In order to save time, I have made the meatloaf mix then formed it into patties for grilling. The extra ingredients stretch the meat volume and add a nice variation to this American classic. The meatloaf burgers are definitely more tasty with barbecue sauce.
When a recipe calls for an ingredient divided it simply means that you will use part of that certain ingredient in one part of the process and the rest in another part. This recipe calls for the barbeque sauce divided because you mix half into the loaf and reserve the other half to spread on top.
By substituting oatmeal you get heart smart, and filling meatloaf. I use 1 min. oatmeal. 2 eggs, 2 #s lean ground beef, 1/4 can tomato sauce, saving the rest of the can to put on top of your meatloaf. You can add what ever you want to spice it up. I have put in mushrooms, or corn (nibletts-drainded) diced tomatos. You can add most any thing that doesn\'t add liquid to your meat loaf and make it different every time. My family loved it. I usually made it as our Sunday dinner, with garlic creamchesse mashed potatos.(after you mash your potatos season with garlic powder, add two tablespoons of cream cheese and real butter, about 1/4 of a stick)(you can also add grated chedder cheese instead of cream cheese, about a 1/4 of a cup) serve with steamed California vegtables and you have a hearty meal that stays with you.
Mix all ingredients in a 2 gallon zip lock bag (no mess or cold)
Use Turkey to cut down on fat.
When you put the loaf into the pan, make a circular loaf so that it is the shape of a donut. Microwave the loaf for 12 minutes turning midway in between. Put on the sauce and extra cheese if desired and put in oven at 350 for another 15 to 20 minutes or until turkey is cooked (170 degrees or just cut into loaf to make sure its not pink in the middle)
This was my first meatloaf and it definitely won\'t be my last. I made it for my boyfriend and we both loved it. I substituted ground chicken (a little healthier). I also added half of a chopped onion and mixed ketchup in with the bbq sauce. It was easy to make and very moist.
I used lean ground turkey, added onion salt, and mixed the ketchup and barbeque sauce for the topping as someone suggested in a previous review. I cooked the meatloaf at 400 degrees instead of 375 for an hour. It came out perfect :)
the recipe asks for 1/2 cup of sauce, so when you mix all ingredients include 1/4 cup, the remaining 1/4 cup will be the topping. i hope that makes sense. this recipe is so quick and easy i\'ll try it tonight. it helps when you\'ve got everything at home...
I made this exact recipe about two weeks ago. everyone really liked it, but I also realized that I\'m not good to eat red meat since I mostly eat poultry. So, I just tried this with a few substitutions (some for a little "zing") and we all loved it even more! There\'s a great deal less fat, and the taste is great!
Substitute the ground beef with lean ground turkey or chicken. Substitute 2 whole eggs with one whole egg and 2 egg whites. Substitute 1/4 C of BBQ sauce with 2 TBS BBQ sauce, 1TBS Cholula or Tabasco, 1 TBS of any not from concentrate juice (mix all sauce ingredients and top as directed in recipe).
I served this with a spinach salad (light vinaigrette dressing on the side, of course!) and we were all happily not hungry and felt less weighed down. I used the leftover spinach and meatloaf in pita sandwiches the next day for lunch. It was FAB!!!
This was soooooo good! I added onions and green peppers, but other than that did not deviate from the recipe at all. It was soooo moist and juicy. My fiance said it was the best meatloaf he ever had. He hasn\'t had my moms! Great recipe! Thank you!
This was my first time making meatloaf and this recipe couldn\'t have been easier, or the results better. I can\'t believe how moist and tasty this recipe is considering how easy it is to make. At the suggestion of someone on this board, I did break down the stuffing crumbs to make them smaller. I also substituted ground turkey for beef. Because I\'m only cooking for myself, I froze half of the mixture for cooking at a later date.
I made it with a side of salad, steamed green beans, boiled yukon gold potatoes w/dollop of sour cream and chives.
I highly recommend this recipe to anyone looking to make tasty, easy comfort food.
I have been using stuffing mix in meatloaf for years. But poke holes in the bag and hammer it down..LOL.. Rolling pen over the bag works well too. Stops the big lumps from being in the meatloaf.
I use one package of ground beef and one of either ground turkey or chicken. Add a chopped med onion and green pepper for more flavor. and two eggs...instead of the water. As the sauce on top use ketchup and mustard and brown sugar. less spicy and people love it.
I am vegetarian, don\'t like to cook meat either, but my boyfriend loves meat, I made it for him and it was a HIT!!! He LOVED it!!!! The best thing about it it\'s that it\'s very quick and you don\'t have to do anything to the meat! Thanks!!!!!!!
so delicious and easy!
