I whipped this up tonight, cause I had some keilbasa I needed to use, and also substituted chicken for the shrimp. I agree - the bbq sauce sounded funky, but i put in a lil of what i had in the fridge. I added some garlic powder, and alot of fresh ground pepper, and this quick "jambalaya" was surprizingly good. Considering the time it took to prepare (like 15 mins) it was a good recipe that I'll probably prepare again, with my own twists.

I think the good thing about food is that you can be creative and try different ingredients in your everyday food. Who said that we must follow traditional recipe. Do still wear shoes matching with bags?
Give it a try. I did it and d I love it. .I would like to congratulate Kraft for their new version of Jambalaya. I love it ;)
Sorry for my grammar mistakes, I guess it is a little better than before. I am still learning this language :)

The thought of BBQ sauce in jambalaya sounded weird, but this was actually really tasty, filling, and satisfying. My husband even liked it and he's critical. Granted, to a 'TRUE' cajun cuisiniere, this wouldn't even compare, but as a very quick, throw together meal, this is pretty darn good. Don't judge this recipe until you try it out and as recipes aren't etched in stone, you can always modify the recipe to your liking.

I do something similar but not really.... I saute onion and japalenos and garlic in olive oil and butter. In another pan I brown sausage or chicken whatver floats your boat. I add a few tbsp more of olive oil to onions jap mixture after carmalized, and add meat a dash of rosemary, and thyme and cayanne... Cook that for about 5 minutes, then add the rice and let it fry for about 5 minutes on med hi heat stirring constantly. I add the stock to the dish in liu of water. Use allot of fresh black pepper, kosher salt, a can of rotel, and one Knorr chicken cube stir it all together until knorr cube disolves and it comes to a boil. cover reduce to a simmer for 20. Its fabulous!!! NO BBQ SAUCE IN CAJUN!!!

BBQ sauce????? Italian sausage?????? This must be some version of New York City jambalaya.
If you want to make jambalaya quick & easy, get the chopped frozen peppers & onion mix at the grocery store. Cut up some chicken tenders and cook them. Add a little andouille or smoked sausage. Add the vegetables and a big can of tomatoes. Add cayenne pepper, hot sauce and cajun seasoning to taste.
Serve over cooked rice.

I'm from Louisiana too. I don't know what that is - but it sure isn't jambalaya! Yuck-E! Kraft needs to hire a good Cajun/Creole grandmother to help them out. They have no CLUE!

This is a quick recipe for those who like seafood. All ingredients are easy to find and prep time is a breeze. Cook time is minimal and the end result is a satisfying meal for everyone.
One note though...I would cut back on the oil to about 1/2 table spoon and use less BBQ sauce if you want the taste to be a little less sweeter.

I look to reviews to see how people liked something that they have actually tried. Didn't your mamma make you try food before you were allowed to say you didn't like it?
Please, write in and let me know if you tried it and liked it or hated it.
Thank you.

I do not understand what idiot decided that tomatoes and bbq sauce belong in Jambalaya. I'm with everyone else - pick up a box of Zatarains or Tony's mix and make that if you're in a hurry. We would never make something as stupid or disgusting as this! This crap should have been named bbq rice, not jambalaya.

I live in the Jambalya Capital of the World (Gonzales, Louisiana). I'm too afraid to try to attempt this dish with that BBQ sauce. I don't want to waste any good shrimp either trying it this way.I think this is just a way to promote Kraft products and I can't really think of any kraft products that could go in a good jambalaya. My family sometimes will put a little bit of tomato sauce to change it up some, or we'll make spaghetti-jambalaya substituting noodles for the rice. For some good jambalaya visit Gonzales at the end of May for the annual Jambalaya Festival.

Coming from a true Cajun this should not be called jambalaya... with bbq sauce? You've got to be kidding me. Kraft should be ashamed.

I guess they have to throw in some sort of Kraft product as it is sponsored by them. BUT BBQ Sauce in Jambalaya? c'mon.
Why hot italian sausage? Smoked Sausage would be a better addition if andoule is not available.
Jambalaya from scratch is an easy dish to make anyway. Quick? maybe not so much but easy.

Authentic Jambalaya does not have tomatoes or italian sausage. Use regular sausage, brown meat... usually chicken or pork... and sausage, then remove all meat and put in your onions, etc. After getting the onions dark... almost black, then you put back all meat and add water. If cooking in a regular pot, not black iron, and on the stove, you may want to add Kitchen Bouquet for darkness in order to avoid burning. bring to a boil and add seasoning. Once the seasoning is just right... season to taste... then you add rice, bring back to a boil, and wait for rice to swell. When the rice starts to swell, then you put fire on low, cover it and 15 minutes later, you got a masterpiece. Thank you!

Born and raised in South Louisiana I understand how people across the country want to try Cajun Foods. There is just one thing, this is not Jambalaya. For one, we would never put Italian sausage, nor would we ever ruin it by adding Barbecue Sauce. We also do not use chicken broth or chopped tomatoes. If you want to make this recipe more authentic, then look up Cajun recipe's and follow how we really make it. Again, this is not Jambalaya.

If you can't get to Louisiana or your Uncle's not Emeril, this is a great meal, substitute seasoned turkey or chicken sausage!!

Don't count this to the Yankees doing this dish. I am a Yankee and damn proud and I love Cajun food and would never think to put BBQ sauce in jambalya. Maybe the italian sausage if I couldn't find anything else but don't put that on all the Northerners! It was kraft trying to use all their own products.

My family loved this recipe, it was so quick and simple and relatively healthy! I think it took me a whole 15 minutes to make! Serve it with a salad and some bread and you have a great meal for busy nights.

Typically, "easy" recipes aren't really all that easy, nor are they quick. However, this one left me pleasantly surprised.
I found this to be a good use of the leftover toppings from tacos (I had diced onions, peppers and tomatoes from last week that worked perfectly). Instead of using canned tomatoes, I used all of the diced fresh tomatoes I had and added enough water to make it equal 14 ounces.
The BBQ sauce was a bit of a head scratcher...I ended up using Famous Dave's Rich and Sassy, which was good, but gave the jambalaya a bit of a sweet aftertaste. Next time, I will use a smokier BBQ sauce.
This made about 6 servings at our house...I'll cut it in half next time for my husband and I. As an added bonus, this only took me 45 minutes from start to finish.
All in all, a great recipe, and it was easy to substitute for what I didn't have at home or what I didn't like.
