Use chocolate wafers instead of nilla vanilla wafers and spiced rum. If you use natural shredded coconut, it absorbs more liquid and you can almost double the amount of rum. Put the dough in the fridge for a while before rolling to make it easier to roll.

My recipe uses semi-sweet chocolate instead of the cocoa and butter...and I roll them in extra sugar, but it\'s the same recipe!

They are easy, just a little tedious to roll - be patient - and I usually make mine smaller, but they are always popular and always among the first to disappear!

  • The perfect liquour for rum balls

Try substituting Punch Abruzzo, available at most liquor stores, in place of rum. You may have to ask for it. Punch is an imported Italian liquour that has a sweet, savory flavor and is perfect for many desserts. I have also used it in place of vanilla in french toast batter.
