  • So easy and so good!

This is one of the easiest dips for you to make. I take it everywhere! I also like to make a meal of it by making a taco type salad, with lettuce, tortilla strips, chicken strips and the dip on top as dressing with a bit of sour cream.

  • Its the only way to serve nachos!

    AsweetAngel - July 11, 2007 04:56:37 PM PST
Always a favorite... try it with different flavors of salsa to add spicyness/flavor... also, its a good idea to add a little bit of milk to help melt the cheese more quickly as keep it from cooling to quickly.

  • Use Rotel instead of Salsa

    Dusty - May 3, 2008 02:12:47 PM PST
Instead of salsa, use Rotel diced tomatos and chilis; it's so much better than using salsa in your queso dip.

Sometimes I also mix in browned sausage. I prefer to use "hot" flavored sausage and the normal variety of Rotel.

I use the Mexican style Velveeta and mix it with plain Cheez Whiz and mix it with some evaporated milk like carnations or I use regular Velveeta and Mexican flavored Cheez Whiz with milk also. Both ways comes out great. I have been making this recipe for nearly 20 years.

  • Velveeta Salsa Dip

    PowSharon - May 3, 2008 01:56:29 PM PST
Of course, this is the best recipe for making nachos! But, I tend to experiment with recipes I'm familiar with. One of my "tweaks" is to add prepared taco meat to the cheese mixture. If I feel like going all out, I'll also add a can of refried beans. The beans require extra stirring to get them worked in, but they really add an extra dimension to the dip!

I haven't tried it myself, but I've eaten dip that has had part of the Velveeta replaced with cream cheese. Sounds kind of funny, but it was really good, seemed to make it smoother and creamier.

But for a basic cheese dip, the old tried and true Velveeta recipe can't be beat!

  • It

    Pamela D - May 3, 2008 01:48:55 PM PST
I make this same dip only I use Rotel chiles instead of Salsa most of the time. There is also another good one: 1 lb. gr. beef., 1 lb. Zesty Sausage, 1 can cream of muchroom soup, 1 lb. Mexican Velveeta. Brown beef and sausage, drain. Add soup and Mexican Velveeta and cook on low in a slow cooker. This is always a hit at a party and extremely addicting!

I love this stuff and I have made it like this for a long time but I also added ground beef to it just 1 lb and its so good I cook the ground beef first and then through the cheese and salsa in the crock pot and it turns out so good

  • Easy cheese dip - much better than premade dip

    James W - February 3, 2008 11:50:35 AM PST
I've been eating this dip for years. Of course, it's not necessary to use the Taco Bell salsa! Experiment with different types and amounts of salsa to change the flavor.

You'll need to heat for a minute and stir, heat for a minute and stir, and repeat (don't just set it for 5 or 6 mnutes). Microwave cooking really is the easiest option.

Unless you live in a city such as Memphis, where most Mexican restaurants have really great cheese dip, then this is the dip for you!
