The first time I made this I followed the recipe to a "T" and it was very sloppy and messy. The second time I made it I used taco seasoning instead of all the salsa and it was FANTASTIC. If I make it again, I will definitely skip the salsa. Otherwise it is a great recipe!

This was easy and delicious! I doubled the onions, added garlic and ground red pepper, and left out the green peppers and olives. I thought by the picture that the tortillas were going to be firm, but they got soft, more like a tamale. If you don\'t let it cool, it will not form squares and will be more like a goulash consistancy. Mine was moister than the picture, but has definately been added to my recipe book!

This is a great recipe. I have done this receipe several times and I Love It. I use a blend of cheeses to top off the Mexican Lasagna.

But instead of cottage cheese (which I loathe), I would use low fat ricotta and I would also use a Kraft Mexican Mix cheeses, also no olives for me, but everything else works!

I combined reviewer suggestions with the original recipe by using taco seasoning packet and a jar of salsa (store brand black bean

Try cooking the tortillas in about an inch (yeah, I know) or less of cooking oil. Try olive oil too. The tortillas will become crispy and stay that way longer, instead of becoming soggy as was reported.

I absolutely LOVED this recipe! In fact, I\'m eating my mexican lasagna now. When I cooked mine, I altered the recipe a little:
1) First of all, I seasoned the meat with creole seasoning (I use it in everything) and garlic while it was browning.
2) I did not use cottage cheese or olives in mine because I do not have a liking for either.
3) Also, I substituted Walmart\'s Fiesta Blend shredded cheese for the cheddar cheese. The Fiesta/Mexican blend has four different cheeses blended together.
4) When I layered mine, I did it differently because I was using a circular casserole dish. I covered the sides with four whole tortillas, Then, I covered the bottom of the dish with one and a half tortillas. I covered it with the meat sauce and shredded cheese and repeated two more times (I had three layers- tortillas, meat sauce, cheese...tortillas, meat sauce, cheese.....tortillas, meat sauce, cheese) then covered the third layer with more tortillas. (I used 10 tortillas total)
5) I then covered the top with a cup of left over salsa I had (there was about a half a cup left after the recipe, plus I had another half of a cup left in another container) and then cheese.
Baked it for 30 minutes, and it came out great. VERY flavorful!

This was really good. I used Taco seasoning, and a can of diced garlic tomatos. I also lightly buttered and grilled the corn tortillas, this makes them crisp and not turn to mush when baking. I used extra lean ground beef, 2% cottage cheese, and 2% sharp chedder. My kids didn\'t like it, but everyone else did.

Ok, I like the basic idea, however I skip the salsa and peppers and mix in a large amount of home made chilli with extra meat. seams that it works better and there is no clean up or mess.. 5 grown men on a friday night and every time I make it.. they clean it all away .... I have to get mine in before they eat it all...

This recipie was easy to make. It looked like it would take a while by all the ingredients, but it was super simple!
I used a bag of Morningstar crumbles instead of ground meat and added a can of black beans. Tasted wonderful!

I read a few comments about this recipe and so when I tried it, I took those into consideration and it came out GREAT! Here is how I made it. I only cooked the ground beef with onions and taco seasoning...no salsa. added corn and kidney beans. Layered with flour torts and cottage cheese. I didn\'t use olives because I didn\'t have any handy....IT TURNED OUT GREAT! The torts were kind of soft, but not soggy. Easy, fast and a family fav!

I thought to use Queso Fresco rather than cottage cheese. I also topped the cheese with a thin layer of pureed chipotle in adobo sauce.I also layered a little coriander. Quite tasty!

I just want to thank kingsdaughter for posting the substitutions for the cottage cheese in this recipe. Although I love cottage cheese I didn\'t think it sounded very good in this recipe. I was curious, looked for the answer and there it was! thanks so much! I\'m going to try and make this recipe this week...

Instead of cottage cheese, I want to try feta cheese and ground turkey. Have to take the meat out of the freezer.

I made this for my husband and he loved it. I added a half can of black beans and it was very good... scrumptions!!!

This recipe has potential but the 2 1/2 cups salsa make this mushy and messy, to give a texturaless mess. Definitely try some of the variation tried by some of the other reviewers, because the actual recipe isn\'t very good.

This is a great family meal. Our group doesn\'t love olives, so I used cilantro as the top garnish and just added it to the top as soon as I pulled the lasagna from the oven. Also, I used more cottage cheese. Goes well when served on a bed of lettuce with a little scoop of sour cream on top.
Enjoy!!

IT WAS SO GOOD, MY BF AND ROOMATES LOVED IT.
I CHOPPED UP GREEN PEPPER, JALAPENO AND LOTS OF GREEN ONION, CUT OUT THE COTTAGE CHEESE AND JUST PUT TONS OF THE "MEXICAN" CHEESE. I DID HOWEVER PUT A MEAT SEASONING ON ALONG WITH SALSA INSTEAD OF THE OTHER SEASONINGS THE RECIPE CALLED FOR. I WILL DEFINITLY BE MAKING THIS AGAIN

It was very easy to make and came out deliciously. I used ground turkey instead of beef and it was amazing!! I\'m definitely going to make this recipe again!

This recipe is quick, easy and pretty tasty. I used extra lean ground turkey instead of beef and I also substituted a can of Rotel for the picante sauce because picante sauce, such as Pace, has a lot of sugar in it.
Although this is nothing close to authentic Mexican cuisine, it still pleased my husband, who is Hispanic. It\'s more like a down-home, feel good casserole. I will definitely being making this again.

I cooked it and I think it is a delicious food. I found that Mexicans like hot foods like people in India.

Easy weeknight meal. Quick. If you like heat, then you\'ll want to increase the seasoning. It was a perfect family meal.
I was concerned that it would be too soupy (from other reviews). I cut the salsa to 2 cups which was a perfect consistency.

Personally, I would substitute 1 block, shredded Monterey Jack for the Cottage Cheese, and remove the Corn altogether. But that\'s just me.

Instead of the salsa, I like to use enchilada sauce. You can go to the spice isle by the gravies and find a packet of enchilada sauce mix. Get a couple cans of tomato sauce. Make it like the recipe on the packet says. You will end up using another pot but it tastes way better!

This was a simple recipe with a BIG taste. This went over so well that some were taking 3 pieces!! AGAIN, this recipe is SO simple and easy to adjust for taste. Increase the heat by using HOT salsa.

I love this recipe! I agree not to use the salsa- but rather taco seasoning packet added to the beef. It makes it less runny! I added black beans, jalapeno

I could have sworn I reviewed this a few weeks ago but I don\'t see my review... Anyways, we liked this recipe, but did make a few modifications. Since one reviewer said it was very soupy, I reduced the amount of salsa to approximately 1 cup, and added half a packet of taco seasoning. (After looking at the taco seasoning ingredients, I think next time I will use my own mix of cumin, chili powder, garlic, and maybe a hint of something spicy like cayenne -- that would be healthier!) I omitted the green peppers since hubby doesn\'t like them, and omitted the corn since I thought corn with corn tortillas would be too much starch for my taste. I also added a can of tomatoes (drained). We liked the results, including the cottage cheese. (But perhaps that\'s because my mom often substitued a mix of cottage cheese and mozzerella for ricotta in her lasagna recipes so I was used to it!) I still thought it came out a little bland though -- next time I will try to use more seasonings and/or a spicier salsa to perk it up. We both think ground beef is very bland and boring, so if we do use it, we want a lot of seasonings to make it taste better! Another modification that I think would be good is to use black beans instead of or in addition to the meat.
