At least throw a can of Rotelle seasoned/spiced Tomatoes in it. Generally a block of Velveeta and a can of Rotelle in a slow cooker does a good job by itself.

I got the screamers so bad I thought it would kill me. I made it for a play off game and missed the forth quarter. Tastes good but will clean you out.

  • An Easier Way!

This one of my signature dishes and it\\'s a crowd favorite. I can\\'t go to any get-together without it.

    (1) 16oz pkg Velveeta brick; cut into bite-size pieces
    (1) 16 oz jar Tostitos Medium Salsa

You can substitute your fave salsa but I found Tostitos has the best consistency and chunk factor. You can also substitute Mild or Hot depending on your fave bite factor. I like Middle of the Road Medium.

You can do this in a microwave but I found using a double-boiler made for a far smoother dip and it stays smooth even as it cools. You don\\'t need a fancy-dancy double-boiler either, I use two pots, one on top of the other.

Put water in the bottom of the double-boiler and the ingredients in the top on the stovetop on high. Stir occasionally until all cheese is melted and it\\'s a consistent peachy color.

1 LB GROUND BEEF BROWNED AND STRAINED (YOU COULD OBVIOUSLY USE ANY KIND OF GROUND MEAT)
1 PKG OF YOUR FAV TACO SEASONING
    1 CAN ROTEL--HOT OR MILD--YOUR CHOICE
    1 BLOCK VELVEETA
    1/2 CUP MILK
    **GARLIC TO TASTE (OPTIONAL)

MIX SEASONING IN COOKED GROUND BEEF FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS ON PACKAGE.

MELT CHEESE IN MILK ON MED HEAT. I ADD THE MILK JUST TO MAKE IT A BIT MORE CREAMY.

ADD ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS TO CHEESE MIXTURE. MIX WELL AND ENJOY WITH YOUR FAV TORTILLA CHIPS.

  • How is this fajita dip?

    mgbeckett19 - February 1, 2009 08:25:26 AM PST
This recipe has no spices in it whatsoever. Fake cheese and sour cream and red peppers? Dull and disgusting.

Velveeta cheese, a can of rotel, and a can of Hormel chili. Voila, instant hearty dip. I made it once and now everyone in my family insists we have it for every get together.

We like to use the block cheese, salsa, diced tomatos with green chilies, with hamburger, or sausage, or even deer burger.

why is it suggested to serve with crackers or vegetables when it shows tortilla chips, which is odviously the better choice for fajita dip. other than that this is a good recipe although I agree that there should be some other spices in it. at least salt and pepper.

OK..I didn\\'t chop the veggies and used that hot or mild tomato mix in the can with peppers and onion. Drain the can of tomatoes very well...save the liquid to make you Bloody Mary\\'s.

  • Misuse of food terms, and a lackluster recipe.

    Chris - February 1, 2009 08:26:02 AM PST
Okay, #1, for anyone too google-shy to know, there\\'s absolutely nothing "fajita" about this recipe. Fajitas are made from grilled meat. There is no meat, so no fajitas. That\\'s like advertising a bean-less bean dip, without saying there\\'s no beans. Stupid.

#2, This "recipe" has been in use for decades. I used to make this same thing, without a recipe, when I was a teenager. Personally, I am against the use of the word recipe in anything that merely needs to be melted, and consists primarily of processed cheese. That\\'s not a recipe. My grandma used to mix horseradish and ketchup together when she served peeled shrimp. Is it safe to say it was a recipe? No, it isn\\'t. There are much better options than going with a re-worked, redundant velveeta mix.

#3, hasn\\'t Kraft made enough money off of this product as it is?

  • Um

    owumail - February 1, 2009 08:36:57 AM PST
Velveeta cheese as a base is a horrible choice. When I saw that, I pretty much made up my mind that this was not the recipe for me. Now, I haved used Velveeta in the past, but the taste was just....how can you say it, unnatural? Any nacho dip made from this block "cheese", just has never tasted good.

And Fajita.....was the word used to make it sound more "exotic" or "Authentic"? No. Like the other poster, meat is needed.

Just meh. Could do much better and there are better recipes out there. But I am sure there are those who will like it.
