  • my parents should rewrite this recipe!!!

    Janet L - April 24, 2007 02:57:20 PM PST
i\'m chinese and i never saw my parents use 1/4 cup of soy sauce to cook anything. waaaaaaay too much salt here!!! you\'d be a sucker for Kraft if you use Minute rice. Fried rice is traditionally day-old rice that\'s stirred fried w/lots of goodies to make it taste better. In other words, you\'re reheating leftovers while adding some new stuff to it.

  • This is not fried rice

    netmangu - April 24, 2007 10:40:46 AM PST
This recipe is for boiled rice...not fried rice.

Fried rice is quite simple and quick to make, but you are missing one key ingredient: COLD cooked rice.

I realize this recipe is from Kraft, but please someone check before posting stuff like this.

I also agree with the previous posts: too much salt and not enough ginger.

A basic fried rice is just the cold cooked rice stir fried until lightly brown in oil and ginger and maybe garlic, then add the eggs.

Veggies, meat, etc can all be added then...hold the soy sauce to a minimum or not at all.

    Lisa - April 24, 2007 11:56:56 AM PST
Just WOW on the salt quotient! Check your labels because this has easily over 1500mg of sodium PER SERVING!

    YIKES!

  • Needs ingredients

    swna1001 - April 24, 2007 07:30:34 AM PST
How can you have fried rice without ginger? Finely chop a lot of ginger and heat it in the oil before adding the rest of the ingredients...otherwise your rice will be flavorless...Mixing in some green onions at the end would help too.

  • no chinese makes fried rice like this

    ritahypang - June 25, 2007 01:45:40 PM PST
I am a chinese, and have been making fried rice since for over 15 years.....

the real recipe should be as follows:-

    dinner for 3-4

    ingredients:-

2-3 tablespoon of sunflower oil (no olive oil, it\'ll give a funny taste)

2.5 cups of long grain rice cooked the night before, or use left over rice. Must be refrigerated to get the rice harden.

    3 large eggs beaten

    spring onions (key ingredient!!!)

diced meat (chicken, barbecue pork, ham, or luncheon meat etc. as you like)

2 -3 teaspoons of lgiht soy sauce

    a pinch of table salt

    Cooking:-

    - Turn the gas to high temperature, heat the wok until red hot.
    - Add the half table spoon of oil into the wok
    - stir fry the meat, and remove them from the wok when cooked
    - put in the day old rice
    - put in 1.5 table spoon of oil
    - add the day old rice when the oil is heated
    - stir until the rice is all seperated and slightly golden
    - add the pinch of salt and continue to stir
    - put in the cooked diced meat
    - stir until the meat and rice are evenlly distributed
    - turn the heat down
    - push the rice to the side, and put 0.5 spoon of oil to the empty out space of the wok
    - add in the beaten egg into the oil, cook it similar to scrambled egg, stir until the egg is 90% cooked.
    - then stir back the rice mixture and the fluffy scrambled egg would be evenly distributed like th meat.
    - finally, put in the soy sauce and spring onion and stir until the rice is tinted by the soy sauce and the dish is all golden
    - remove from heat

total cooking time should not be more than 15 - 20 mins., from preparation (excluding cooking of rice night before)

  • Is this a recipe for fried rice? Are you sure, Kraft?

    Panita - June 12, 2007 12:51:04 AM PST
I am also from an Asian country. It\'s Thailand. We eat rice everyday and every meal. I can say that this recipe is taken from the deep ocean. It\'s way too much salt. Who can eat this?

The company should not only try to sell the product. When they give away the recipes, they need to make sure that they also protect authenticity of the food too.

    This dish is not edible.

  • Too much sodium, didn't even attempt to try.

    bevp1962 - April 24, 2007 04:09:53 PM PST
I didn\'t even think about trying this recipe. Kraft has, throughout the years presented some pretty tasty recipes. Recently I was diagnosed w/diabetes & looked to Kraft for some recipes due to their printed nutrition content. We found several recipes that listed a carb content which was very in line with my prescribed carb intake for a day. Wrong. After reading the carb contents on each ingredient from several of their recipes, I found that their nutritional info, mainly the carbs to be dangerously incorrect. Unfortunately now I can no longer trust the nutrition data posted on a Kraft recipe, which untimately means that I can not try a Kraft recipe without doing my homework. Doing homework after working all day, I don\'t think so.

  • THIS IS NOT A MEAL!

    sophie_jules - June 25, 2007 01:09:02 PM PST
I\'m sorry - but 183 calories per serving is NOT a meal. A side dish, maybe. And yep on the salt. . .oh, and minute rice has almost zero nutritional value. . .

  • Yuk, way too much salt and using minute rice is horrible!!!

    happy camper - June 25, 2007 01:16:44 PM PST
Fried Rice is soo easy! Use cold cooked rice. Fine dice the vege\'s you like, or use frozen mixed vege\'s. Partially cook them, then add your rice, throw in a slightly beaten egg, and some chopped scallions and/or a small amount of ginger for seasoning. Add 1-2 tablespoons of lite soy if you like.

  • Look at the title people!

    mrstyno - January 16, 2008 04:11:06 PM PST
This recipe is called "15 Minute Fried Rice" not "Traditional Chinese Fried Rice" or "The Best Fried Rice You\'ll Ever Eat." It takes 15 MINUTES to make, with the most basic ingredients, and is tailored to people who eat out most of the time. If you don\'t regularly cook at home, this is a good introduction to cooking. I agree with the past posts that the sodium content is very high. But, again, this is for people who eat out. They probably aren\'t too concerned with sodium in the first place.

  • Weird.........

    Crystal Y - June 10, 2007 03:28:41 PM PST
real fried rice generally uses already cooked leftover rice, and also, they almost never put soy sauce in it, and never, ever do they use a bullion cube! Its too salty, and its not even real fried rice!

  • What fried rice

    j p - January 16, 2008 03:35:50 PM PST
It should be called an incentive to use Kraft products for those unable to cook. It sounds positively disgusting. I averaged the reviews and found it to be less than 1.5 stars. Buyer beware of slick marketing, and please try look up and attempt some real Asian recipes.

  • Too Salty!

    tomcat_1987 - November 7, 2007 05:05:14 PM PST
I\'m Asian. I think this recipe is not correct.

We use left-over rice in making fried rice and we also use garlic to add flavor.

  • Substitution

    gigi_cam - June 25, 2007 01:41:05 PM PST
I agree--that is a lot of salt; however, you can also substitute the low sodium soy sauce and use a little chicken broth.

    watchbaby2003 - June 25, 2007 01:58:59 PM PST
yes, this is a terrible fried rice recipe. you first put in the garlic w/ the ginger in the oil then comes the tiny slices of green onions to get the flavor/smell going. i have to agree toooooo much sodium. you only want a little soy sauce to get the slight color change. sometimes my mom goes without it as well. taste just as great

    tjpigsley - June 25, 2007 01:57:12 PM PST
This is not fried rice! Instant rice? Tons of soy sauce? Hit the web for a real reciepe, this one from Kraft is obviously self promoting and poorly inspired. Get a clue Yahoo if you are going to post recipes!

  • No flaver unless you like salt.

    Denet B - August 5, 2007 03:18:16 PM PST
This recipe would be better with more flavers and less salt. If you have health problems that require low sodium diets do not try this dish. All I can say is who ever tested this one before it was published had no tastbuds!

    megan_detray - April 6, 2009 04:28:52 PM PST
YES, made exactly as written it is quite salty. Next time I think I will skip the bouillon cube and lighten up on the soy sauce. I will also use fresh veggies from the market, the frozen got too soggy!
