Cooking Directions

  1. Put oven rack in middle position and preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Roll out pastry sheet into a 15- by 12-inch rectangle on a lightly floured surface with a floured rolling pin. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then prick pastry all over with a fork. Sprinkle bread crumbs over pastry.
  3. Heat butter in a small saucepan over moderate heat, swirling pan, until golden brown, about 1 minute. Pour butter over apples in a bowl, then add sugar and salt and toss to coat. Spread apples evenly over pastry, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides. Fold in edges over apples, pressing down firmly on corners and sides. Bake until apples are tender, 35 to 40 minutes. Sprinkle cheese over apples and bake until cheese is golden and bubbling, 5 to 9 minutes more. Serve warm.

To the person who wrote the review before, don\'t knock it if you haven\'t tried it. If people don\'t continue to challenge and change dishes, we would never have had some of the great dishes we have today. Sure it is unconventional but I am sure thats what they said to the first person to make pizza to begin with. Besides the authors of this recipe put pizza in quotes, implying they never meant to "ruin" the classics, just to take the concept and introduce a new twist.

I am sorry i am Italian and I love pizza, I have tried pizza\'s all over the world, looking to bring a new touch to my pizza resturant located in Italy. And I have heard of this Apple "Pizza" and I was immediatly disgusted. We Italians perfected pizza, and i am completely insulted that what we have invented went in a direction such as to apples on pizza. You stupid Americans have ruined all classic meals, i mean just look at the cheesy rice.
