  • Love it!!

For those skeptics...don\'t knock it until you try it!!! I do prefer my tacos grilled rather than adding more calories by frying but fried is good too. Taco shells?? That would ruin the taste, even if you can\'t buy fresh corn tortillas (my fav) you can buy them at the store but steam them so that they get soft. Also try chipotle mayo with fresh pico de gallo and a squeeze of lime!!

My whole family loved this! I made a few alterations. I left out the radishes and used shredded cabbage instead of lettuce and added chopped purple onion. It was sooo good. I suggesst you try it!

If you have never made these, you are missing one of the best things going, using cabbage, cilantro, onions, and tater sauce, is another take..if you want to try them out, then if there is a Rubio\'s in your town, usually on Tuesday nights they have taco tuesday, with fish taco\'s only $1..can not miss, they also have corona beer, to go with them..

A friend came over and offered to cook dinner and of course you never turn down a free meal and movie! She made fried fish tacos but used talapia fish instead of cod fish and it was AWESOME. i thought is was going to be the most disgusting thing i had ever had but it was just the opposite it was great! Don\'t knock it until you try it!

  • Oh My Gosh, These Were Great!

    anorthlmi - February 14, 2008 01:16:36 PM PST
I used my boyfriend\'s fresh-caught Alaskan Halibut for these and they were amazing! Even my picky 6 year old son loved them...how can you beat that? I served them with a black bean relish (black beans, onion, garlic, tomatoes, Cotija cheese, kosher salt, cilantro, and finely chopped serrano chiles) home made salsa (make it with grape tomatoes and remove the seeds, it\'s worth the effort), home made corn tortillas, and white jasmine rice. For once there were no leftovers...

  • Love the fried fish tacos!

    erica d. - February 12, 2008 06:31:31 AM PST
I love tacos and I love fish so I was eager to make this recipe. I am really new to cooking, so thought there was a high possibility for me to mess up this recipe, but it came out great. I am single, so I thought I would cut the recipe in half. I started with 1 teaspoon salt, and a half cup each of flour and Miller Lite. Well, that was way too think and impossible to use, so I added the additional half cup flour and Miller Lite, which made the batter much more useable. (So in total, I used the full recipe for the batter, except for half the salt.) I also didn\'t use anywhere near a quart of vegetable oil, maybe a two cups. I just eyed putting a generous amount into the pan that I thought would be suitable for frying. The fish came out great. I fried them in two batches, putting each batch twice in the pan as per the recipe. I then dressed the tacos with some cheese, lettuce, and sour cream. It was delicous and easy, and I can\'t wait to have them again!

  • one for our recipe box

    rositarat - February 5, 2008 11:04:54 PM PST
My husband and I are newlyweds and we just tried this recipe tonight. We both agreed that this is one for our recipe books and would be a wonderful dish to serve when we have guests. We had fun preparing it, it didn\'t take long at all! We were surprised by how good they tasted! The avocado, radish and lime really complimented the fish. Overall it was a very satisfying dinner. We can\'t wait to have fish tacos again! My husband even did a little dance in the kitchen after tasting the first bite!

  • Rubios!

    Trish - February 4, 2008 04:22:17 PM PST
Wahoos? I don\'t think so! Rubios is the original So Cal fish taco joint.

And proper white sauce is equal parts mayo and plain (not vanilla!) yogurt, with nothing else added.

I tried fish taco\'s and was not impressed, until I had one served with white sauce. I copied it using the following, would be interested in hearing other recipes:

1/4 cup mayo(sounds gross, but wait....)
    1/4 cup plain yogurt
    1 tbsp capers
1 tbsp pickled jalepenos - more recomended to taste
    1 lime
    dash salt, cumin

Blend/process together and drizzle over the ingredients:-jmw

  • Good Stuff!

    Dingobluefoot - February 4, 2008 01:52:42 PM PST
I, too, turned my nose up the first time I heard of fish tacos. How wrong I was! They\'re WONDERFUL, and you can use all kinds of variations until you make them the way that YOU like the best.

To this recipe, I think I\'d have to add a bit of heat by using a sauce made with chipotle...

good recipe. For those that live in SoCal I\'m sure you know about ensenada\'s tasty fish tacos.. I agree instead of lettuce use cabage. Also try a little tartar sauce with a homemade salsa.

  • Thanks a bunch!!!

    weekendgirl357 - October 16, 2007 02:36:43 PM PST
Thank you for this recipe!!! I first tried them a few months ago at a Tex-Mex place in Atlanta (LOL). They had a delicious jicama slaw inside and I was HOOKED!! I tried them at home (before I saw this recipe) this past weekend and it was a disaster. I used tilapia (too soft) and I used regular cole slaw (mistake). Now I\'m ready to serve these to other\'s.

  • I hate to break it to you....

    jmwillis3 - April 29, 2008 03:09:06 PM PST
I hate to break it to you CA folks, but the best seafood taco is in Austin, TX at Hula Hut. I say seafood because they use fried shrimp instead of fish with the red cabbage slaw and a jalapeno ranch dressing. DELICIOUS!! I\'ve had the Rubio tacos as I am a huge seafood taco fan, but Rubios has nothing on Hula Hut. On the Border also has a delicious fish taco.

  • These are awesome

    jeffreywu90@sbcglobal.net - February 17, 2008 04:31:43 PM PST
I could pretty much live off these. Anyone who isn\'t from Socal should definitely visited Rubio\'s and try their fish tacos if they ever come over for a visit, just so you know how they\'re supposed to taste before you try doing it yourself. Of course, on Tuesdays, the tacos are only a dollar, so even if you\'re ridiculously hungry and feel like eating six (I\'ve probably done five before, without getting a stomach ache), it\'s only six bucks. And, Wahoo\'s fish tacos are pretty good but not quite Rubio\'s caliber. Anyways, to learn how to make the fish tacos yourself would be even better.

  • Really want to try this

    Mindy G - November 12, 2007 12:49:03 PM PST
I have never had fish tacos before. I have always been scared to thinking it would be nasty but these really sound good. I thought fish tacos weren\'t made with fried fish. Not sure why but now that I know they are made with fried fish, it sounds really good.
