  • Excellent recipe

    h2Bn - September 13, 2007 12:53:20 PM PST
This is a favorite of many of my meat-loving friends and relatives who otherwise would not be caught dead eating tofu.

This made even my omnivore friends rethink tofu!

    So good.

  • What a great idea !

    Q'lingon cHi'Q - August 18, 2008 09:35:57 AM PST
I have been looking for a dish like this for months. Ever since my vegetarian diet led me to tofu ! This is like "tofu steak". And very delicious, although I did alter the recipe a bit.

My version uses an Italian sauce, and Mozzarella flavored soy-cheese.

  • quite tasty, but chicken broth?

    Jennifer Z - February 23, 2008 06:16:59 AM PST
This turned out great. It\'s quite substantial and hearty-feeling. due to the mushrooms and sauce. I did not add oil to the pan after the first batch of tofu browning, I didn\'t think it needed it.

As a side topic... a personal pet peeve of mine is any mention of chicken broth (even as a second choice) in recipes, why the heck would that even be listed anywhere in a vegetarian recipe that features tofu??? I used Imagine no-chicken broth for this dish.

    andrea - August 6, 2009 02:06:43 PM PST
I\\'ve had some bad experiences with tofu before but this recipe turned out awsome. I loved it and my husband loved it, too, will definitely make it again soon!

  • Yuck!

    amw311 - October 5, 2008 02:59:14 PM PST
I thought this was going to be really good because of all of the positive reviews... YUCK! I did not enjoy this recipe. I followed the directions exactly; even used 2 shallots when it seemed like a lot. It turned out really gooey and flavorless. Maybe the failure had something to do with the fact that I live above 5,000 feet elevation... I will not try this recipe again!

  • Why review if never made

    jeno - December 10, 2007 02:00:00 PM PST
Why write a review if you have not made the recipe. You are no help to those who want to try it. We can all see it looks good ourselves.

  • Perfect for company!

    Sharon G - April 9, 2007 02:46:59 PM PST
This is nice enough for company! I may substitute the oil with Smart Balance. I\'ve been doing that a lot and so far everything has turned out great. The potatoes look yummy with it, but I think I may do green beans and slivered baby carrots. I try to keep those calories down as much as possible yet still have enjoyable meals. Thanks for this one! (And it\'s so pretty too!)

  • Absolutely delicious!!

    klawsonbourne - September 25, 2008 01:40:31 PM PST
Fixed it for a dinner party and got raves!

Also, if you\'re going as far as to suggest a tofu dish, please leave the dead animal parts and excretions out. There are more vegans now, than ever before, and if your recipe leans toward compassion, why not let it be?

  • Substitution for wine?

I don\'t drink alcoholic beverages. What can I substitute for the marsala wine?

I did not try it yet, but I did not feel right about about "coocking" the tofu in oil. Would it be more appropriate to use the word "frying"?
The dish seems to be very delicious.

  • We

    verushka26 - August 27, 2007 05:09:18 PM PST
My boyfriend is getting the ingredients for it as we speak!

I too support this week\'s variety of vegetarian options. We really shouldn\'t be eating meat more than a handful of times a week; it\'s not natural. And especially with the "meaty" flavor combo of mushrooms and onions, I won\'t be thinking about chicken tonight.

    Thanks Yahoo!

  • DELISH! :)

    BE - August 27, 2007 02:30:46 PM PST
This tofu dish looks like heaven. Might try it with a different wine, depending on whats on hand, but other than that it looks perfect. A fresh green salad would round out this meal. Tofu is SO versatile, please keep inspiring us vegetarians (and those who like to cook for us!). PEACE

    Venice Girl - April 9, 2007 02:09:16 PM PST
Although it\'s chock full of carbohydrates and fat, this still looks really tasty and one of those vegetarian recipes that you want to try out on your tried and true meat eating friends!
