  • Try Cayenne

    glmrgrl71477 - December 13, 2007 08:03:00 AM PST
My boyfriend puts cayenne pepper in my hot chocolate and it gives it a great kick. It's not as smokey as chili powder. The spiceyness is supposed to bring out the flavor of the cocoa more.

  • Chili Powder???

I was not impressed with the chili powder... The nutmeg was a nice holiday addition...I often put cinnamon in my hot chocolate especially at a coffee shop...I also add real vanilla to my hot chocolate...The chili powder was a weird combo of tastes on the palate...I'd love to hear other's comments...

  • Spicy Coco

    Heather P - December 13, 2007 02:40:44 PM PST
Caribou Coffee used to have a spicy coco that was sooooo good. I wish they still made it. I have been trying forever to replicate that same flavor. I might try this and see if it turns out similar.
I would have to agree that the cayenne pepper might be a better flavor match with chocolate.

  • liked it but lacking something

I think the chili powder in the chocolate is a lot like Mexican mole - a fiery peppery chocolate sauce served with chicken. Delicious. The hot chocolate with chili was remininsce of that but not near as good as Mexican chicken mole. Cinnamon in choclate is also a very mexican taste, especially with a bitter chocolate.
