2. Cooking Directions

  1. To prepare sauce: Combine oyster sauce, water, hoisin sauce, vinegar, sherry (or rice wine), cornstarch, brown sugar, soy sauce and sesame oil in a small bowl.
  2. To prepare stir-fry: Heat 2 teaspoons canola oil over medium-high heat in a large nonstick skillet or wok. Add pork; cook, stirring constantly, until no longer pink, about 4 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Wipe out the pan.
  3. Add remaining 1 teaspoon oil, garlic and ginger; cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, 30 seconds. Add water chestnuts, bamboo shoots and mushrooms; cook, stirring often, until the mushrooms have softened, about 4 minutes. Return the pork to the pan and add the sauce. Cook, stirring constantly, until a thick glossy sauce has formed, about 1 minute. Serve sprinkled with scallions and wrapped in lettuce leaves.

Yield: 4 servings

3. Still Hungry?

Serve this quick stir-fry family-style: set out a bowl of stir-fried pork and the lettuce leaves and let people make their own wraps.

  • Wonderful!

I have made this three times all ready since finding the receipe! The ingredient list seems long and rather scary it is actually really simple to make. I also substituted the pork one time with some ground beef and I think the family liked that better - plus it was easier for me, no chopping! You can make this ahead of time and store in the fridge until it is ready to be served then just pop in the microwave. It\'s also a good way to get kids to eat more veggies! I loved this appetizer and will be making it again....now I\'m hungry just thiking about it!!!

  • This is GOOD!!!!

This is fab and easy and to make, tastes great and really impressed my guests! Make up a batch and store in the fridge - then reheat in micro for a minute to serve piping hot!
Also nice to add crispy rice vermacelli (noodles) to add texture. Simply deep fry the rice noodles for a few seconds and once cooled, break them up to add into your lettuce wraps!
Great with hoisin or sweet and sour sauce to dip!

Very good dish, the only thing i did different was use romaine lettuce instead of iceberg. the romaine is easy to hold and is already shaped like boat making it hold and serve.

The ingredients list might look a little scary but the recipe is really easy to make! It\'s also tasty, very delicious! I\'ve had this made in restaurants before and after making it myself, I think it tastes the same as in restaruants. It\'s worth a try!
