Some nice garnishes for the soup are freshly grated nutmeg, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, a sprinkle of paprika, or Buttered Cinnamon-Sugar Croutons.
Note
If you do not own a folding steamer basket, a pasta pot with a removable pasta insert works well.
This recipe is a GOOD ONE. Been looking for this for a while, and others are NOT as good. Its a hit in our house.I make a double batch, because one is not enough. I like it the next day as well.Yummy!
I used onions instead of the shallots, and added a dash of nutmeg.Be brave and make it your own.Its a great basic recipe, sweet, buttery, creamy and ever so silky.

In my opinion, if you roast the butternut squash before making the soup, you get the best flavor out of it. I found a great recipe where you roast butternut squash and onions. Then you blend it up with hot chicken stock and finish with a bit of cream. Can\\'t get any easier or more delicious than that. Check it out! www.cookingforbimbos.com!
