  • Tuna Salad is the Best!

    shellyc7182 - March 5, 2008 09:20:38 AM PST
I love tuna salad! It\'s so versatile. You can add anything to it and only make it better! I usually coarsely chop an apple and throw it in. Just the other day, I came up with a chicken salad recipe that I just have to share!

2 boneless skinless chicken breasts, poached, salted, and chopped
    1/2 c. mayo
    1-2 green onions, chopped
    1-2 stalks celery, chopped
1/4 c. red bell pepper, chopped
    2 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
2-3 t. pickle relish (or to taste)
    salt and pepper to taste
    tarragon to taste
    parsley to taste

It\'s delicious! I make some on Sunday and eat if for lunch throughout the week. Try it on bread or toasted... Try it on a bed of lettuce... Add ingredients... Take some away... Be creative! That\'s what cooking is all about! ENJOY!

  • delicious. best with toasted white bread!

    gurlster - May 7, 2008 02:26:17 PM PST
this is a great tuna salad recipe. i nearly use all the same ingredients, except for the lemon juice--something i\'ll definitely try. one ingredient--not mentioned--that i recommend are walnuts (chopped). these add a great \'meaty\' texture to the salad and the flavor goes great with the tuna salad.

  • Tuna Salad and the Kitchen Sink

In addition to the recipe ingredients, I add halved green seedless grapes, halved water chestnuts and vinegar. If I have them, I toss in a few chopped walnuts or pecans. Boiled eggs, apples, or tomatoes are good, too. Try it on Ritz crackers.

  • Sounds yummy

    Sandy - March 31, 2008 03:15:22 PM PST
I like chopped up green or black olives in mine. And not much mayo, it makes it too drippy.

  • peas

    drmikej - May 29, 2009 11:17:04 AM PST
I add 1/2 lb of frozen petit pois (tiny peas) that have been barely cooked, drained, and cooled to mine for a flavor boost and textural addition. You could also add a touch of dill.
    Hmm ......... edamame?
I also agree with Sandy: use just enough mayo to bind everything together. Make sure everything is well-drained, too.

  • Use chunk instead of solid

    krellan2 - June 12, 2008 05:33:09 PM PST
Great recipe, but the first step is a bit odd. Why not just buy cans of chunk white/light instead of solid white/light?

That will save the trouble of having to break up the solid tuna into chunks.

Also, be sure to buy cans that were packed in water. Made the mistake once of buying tuna packed in oil... nasty!

  • WASABI

    JOSH S - June 11, 2008 02:18:29 PM PST
If anyone has a Trader Joes by them and likes wasabi, they have an amazing Wasabi mayo. Try adding this to your salad for an extra kick.. Don\'t worry it isn\'t too hot and you can also mix in regular mayo with it..

  • Try with this too

    quisp1979 - June 4, 2008 04:12:03 PM PST
I like to use chopped green onions instead of red. and also use chopped cukes, red, and yellow peppers, carrots, black olives, peas, no garlic, and use with tri-colored pasta. oh, and chopped boiled eggs. Little salt, cracked pepper, little virgin olive oil, and some ital. seasoning for taste.

  • Tuna Salad

    singswing50 - August 3, 2009 01:19:52 PM PST
this is a horrible excuse for a tuna salad. The onion conflicts with the pickles on the taste buds, and the mustard also adds a disturbing element.

this one is much better. A friend of mine gave it to me, she had a restaurant on Capitol Hill for many years and this was served to many a Congressman and staffer as well as some Washington Post writers. I always get compliments from everyone who eats this saying it\\'s the best tuna salad they\\'ve ever had.

2 6 oz cans of chunk light tune in water
1 11 oz can of albacore tuna in water (it may be 12 oz, I forget)
Drain the tuna well and mix, breaking up the chunks. (you can use a food processor but don\\'t overdue it or you\\'ll get paste) DO NOT USE THE FOOD PROCESSOR TO MIX IT ALL TOGETHER. MIX BY HAND.
Add the juice of 1 fresh lemon
1/2 tsp celery seed (adjust to your liking)
1/4 tsp onion powder (adjust to your liking)
    !/2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
Mix well. Taste for balance of flavors and adjust.
Add 1 cup of Kraft mayonaise (start with a little less and add to your desired consistency) You may want to add more if it seems to be a little dry.
Serve on toasted bread of your liking. I like toasted rye. You can also add a slice of american cheese, some lettuce and sliced tomatoes.
During storage, the lemon juice may come to the top. Just stir will before making sandwiches.

Toast about 3 tbls of sesame seeds in a dry skillet.
This gives it a nutty taste to die for.

  • For Better Taste, with Fewer Calories...

    ipscshooter - July 30, 2009 11:33:08 AM PST
Use Miracle Whip instead of Mayo. Gives it a slightly sweeter taste, and drastically cuts back on the calories...

  • Tuna Salad

    Cynthia M - July 29, 2009 10:21:30 AM PST
Who puts black pepper in their tuna salad? A gal I went to school with and she had a pizza/ sandwich shop near my office made me a tuna with pepper. I called her and asked, Who taught you to make a tuna sandwich? She was Italian. Is that an Italian thing? East coast? I don\\'t care if other folks like it, but it ruined the sandwich for me. In High School I ate a tuna sandwich every day and every weekend when I was dating I would order one out. No one ever put pepper in one, except my friend. I occasionally order one out now and have not tasted pepper in any of the sandwiches out. I eat out all the time, I\\'m a senior citizen now, so I\\'m pretty sure I know what I\\'m talking about. I\\'m in California, that is why I asked if putting pepper on a tuna is an east coast thing.

My Mother made the best!!! Friends would come over just to get one of her sandwiches!
    (Makes 2-3 sandwiches)
    1 can of tuna
Mayo- 1/2-1 cup, we like it very moist (Lite Mayo can be used)
    Celery, finely chopped- 1 stalk
Hard boiled eggs, finely chopped- 2 (cold)
    Sweet Pickles- finely chopped
    Mix the above well!
    Sliced Tomao (optional)
    Lettuce (optional)
    On Whole Wheat Bread

  • Tuna sans pickles

    kozzi - April 2, 2009 10:24:36 PM PST
Just about perfect, except you need to lose the pickles. Their presence overwhelms the basic good taste of the tuna. After all, it\\\'s about the tuna, isn\\\'t it?

  • Try this!!!

    enm-b - March 30, 2009 02:07:37 PM PST
what\\\'s really good is instead of using the canned tuna, use the hickory-smoked tuna in the pouch. DELISH!!!
