I did not like this recipe at all- chicken was good but the vegetables had no flavor and were mushy

  • Yucky

    brianwclegg - February 10, 2008 08:38:27 PM PST
This is the absolute worst recipe I have ever tried. In fact, this is the first time I\'ve ever made something that I couldn\'t eat myself. I\'m not a picky eater either. Just the smell of the peanutbutter/soysauce mixture made me nauseated all day. I wanted to stick my crock pot in the garage and let it cook outside so I didn\'t have to smell it. It tasted as bad as it smelled.

  • Worst meal I have ever prepared

    nelsavery - January 24, 2008 08:16:28 PM PST
Easy to throw together but the end result ended up going down the garbage disposal - godness gracious - it was aweful!

  • Horrible

    trotzkinator - January 14, 2008 05:22:46 PM PST
As another review had said, the veggies were mushy and had no flavor, and the citrus/orange flavor just didn\'t work well with the peanut butter/soy sauce. I added some minced garlic to it, and honestly, the dish just looked vile spooned out over rice. I think that using coconut milk rather than orange juice would have been much better (and much more unhealthy!). Veggies are better off cooked seperately and added when served to maintain their flavor and texture.

  • One Change to Make this GREAT

    kelly - November 8, 2008 05:53:50 AM PST
I agree with the less than ideal mushy vegetables.

Make this recipe great by chopping 2 cups worth of fresh vegetables in to strips (similar to how you cut the chicken).

Saute the vegetables in peanut oil just prior to serving.

Highly recommend serving over rice, so simply prepare the vegetables while the rice is cooking.

Adds another 15 minutes to the prep time.

    Vegetables suggested:
    1/4 cup water chestnuts
1 cup mixed peppers (red, yellow, orange)
    1/4 cup mushrooms
    1/2 cup snow peas

  • Made some changes.

    Thomas G - April 20, 2009 12:29:13 PM PST
I used whole chicken breast, used 1 cup of coconut milk and 1 cup of orange juice and added a 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Instead of cooking the frozen veggies all day I put them in when I got home and they cooked in about 15 minutes. Served it over thin spaghetti noodles and topped it with chopped peanuts, fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime.

  • A Couple fixes and it could be good

    Stacy W - February 2, 2009 06:32:35 PM PST
I added 4 tbls of teryiaki sauce
    Garlic Salt to taste
    1 tbls of brown sugar

I put 4 chicken breast fillets in whole

I put it in at about 9am and took it out at 6

I got a fresh asian vegetable mix from the produce aisle from my local grocer and I put them on a pan with a little olive oil broiled on high for about 10 min (without preheating)

A few changes could turn this dud into yum! oklumi

  • More!

    Linda H - October 4, 2007 01:21:19 AM PST
I use the crock pot at least once a week. The problem is, there are so few recipes written for the crock pot that we get stuck in a rut. This is a nice change from the ordinary. We need more crock pot recipes!

  • Really good with some additions

    frankinbolton - July 26, 2009 05:59:10 PM PST
At first seeing the video I was all excited about this one. Then reading the bad reviews, well....popped bubble. But in trying it I actually found it to be quite tasty, (and easy big time!). I added a bit of kosher salt and a tablespoon of indonesian sambal to heat it up abit. Sambal is always a good match with anything with peanut butter.

  • Nasty!

    doglvr47@ymail.com - April 20, 2009 03:56:14 PM PST
I\\\'m not a picky eater and I love Asian food, but this was horrible. No flavor, no texture. Veggies got too mushy. OJ and peanut butter just didn\\\'t work. Even rice couldn\\\'t save this recipe. Threw it away.

  • Hearty, not hardy

    Cindy T - April 20, 2009 03:52:05 PM PST
After reading the other foodie reviews, I think the only "hardy" part of this meal would be the rice.

For all you folks who are reading the recipe instructions, the term they are trying to use is "hearty," not "hardy."

  • Crockpot 4hrs frozen veggie

    rev. frederick - April 20, 2009 03:09:07 PM PST
There is salvation is you think about this..peanuts and soy sauce and chicken work well..for me it was to hold off the veggies adding 20 minutes before serving.add some cocunut milk to the crockpot and shorten the cooking time to 2hrs.gone are the gushies.

  • Definitely Easy! Tasted Pretty Good Too!!

    aimee g - April 2, 2009 04:18:20 PM PST
I was in a rush- threw every thing in the pot in about 3 minutes, turned it on low and let it cook for about 6 hrs. We thought it had kind of a Thai flavor from the peanut butter. The veggies were very soft, but i did not expect stir fry. Might make again if in a rush- no complaints and there was only 1 bowl left.
