....the 4 tablespoons of water were supposed to be mixed in with the butter mixture and then pour the mixture over the apple filling and cake mix as the recipe indicates. The recipe is a little vague with directions...try re-reading it and make it again with the water added to the butter mixture...should turn out better for you...and i too, did not like the caramel.

  • Delicious!

Caramel and apple both have a special place in my heart. This dessert is wonderful! As another reviewer commented, it goes beautifully with a ball of vanilla ice cream when it's just out of the oven.

    Will be used often!

  • I played with it a bit.

I used yellow cake mix as it is moister then white. I also poured some additional melted margarine over the top on the dry spot and It turned out great. Everyone loved it. It is great warm with vanilla ice cream.

  • Not for me

Did not work for me. After I put apple and cake mix in dish, I realized there was no information about the 4 T of water. I have no idea what it was supposed to be used for. Baked and bit into dry cake mix and fruit. Threw it in trash. The caramel did not help either.
