  • what a silly recipe !

C'mon how many people have 4 cups of chopped cooked chicken hanging around ? Raise your Hands ! :-))

And where does 4 cups of chopped cooked chicken come from ?
    ............................................... A Real Chicken !

Yes you could go to the store and get those lousy dried out
precooked chickens or worse -those tasteless chicken slices.

But rather go to the store and buy/store/freeze FRESH chicken.

Rinse the fresh chicken , remove as much skin and fat as you
dont want in the final soup , cut into pieces for even faster
cooking and for less $ and little more time you have 10x better
soup and flavor , especially without those awful boullion cubes
which anyone can read are 95% salt, cornstarch

  • Chicken soup is all good and even better ...............

    glenda y - August 4, 2007 12:32:30 PM PST
Chicken soup is one of my favorite but I myself do not saute anything just put it in the Chicken broth that you have boiled from fresh chicken parts, thigh, legs or whole chicken, after you have taken chicken out of pot. Put in all(spices, veggies) except noodles, which I boil first and drain, then put in the all the other stuff it has simmered for a least 30 minutes to get all the flavor then put in noodles , less fat and I go lilte on salt if any for with the spices you don't need any. So good...............

  • chicken soup

A person rated this recipe who obviously had never made it. Sometimes I will have as much as 4 cups of chicken in the refrigerator because I buy a whole chicken, and my husband and I will eat just a quarter of the whole breast each. Having said that, do take a chicken and fix it by boiling it some water and add herbs to your taste. Cube the chicken. The resulting broth will give you enough liquid for this soup. I eliminate the water and the bouillion cubes. As written, this recipe is not that great, but if you make your own broth, or even use a packaged broth such as Pacific brand, organic, salt free broth, you will have a wonderful meal. I rated this using the bouillion cube, but if that is eliminated and fresh chicken broth is used the score goes up to a five star. I realize there might be times a person might not have time to prepare a chicken with broth, and the cubes make it easier, but it also really raises the salt content. My advice is to not make it unless you can use the fresh broth. It really makes a difference in the taste. Bouillion makes for a very salty, chemically tasting broth.

  • ?...

I have a question. Has anyone rating the reviews actually tried the receipes to see how it turns out?! Or is everyone reviewing before trying?! It's not fair to the author of the receipt to shoot it down without even trying to make it!

  • To the goof who thinks this is silly...

    Ashley - May 22, 2008 08:56:10 AM PST
Obviously if you have a recipe... and it calls for 4 cups of cooked chopped chicken, or anything else for that matter it's kind of understood that you can get that from whatever source you choose!?

For someone who has no common sense in the kitchen, it wouldn't make sense, but for those of us that can comprehend such a thing this is a great recipe!! As with any recipe, I flavored it to taste, and it turned out fantastic!

I got a good laugh out of that comment... and delicious soup!! haha

    So thanks!!!

  • who has 10 people to feed at once?

    redmamax4 - March 13, 2008 10:14:35 AM PST
Yes this is a good recipe but not many people have 10 people to feed at once... and nobody has 4cups chicken in the fridge i have to agree with everyone on that....Can't they make smaller recipe's?

  • Nice and easy

    Geoff W - February 4, 2008 02:50:29 PM PST
The recipe was easy and a nice basic good chicken noodle soup. I just wanted to comment on the reviews who obviously did not try it. I am making the soup right now because I do have the extra chicken lying around and do not want it to go to waste!!

  • My recipe

SUE ELLEN CLEMENT - January 31, 2008 05:50:08 PM PST
This recipe is almost exactly like my own and I will say it is wonderful. my only changes are that I put potatoes and instead of marjoram I use poultry seasoning and parsley in mine and I also add
1/2 tbs. garlic. Yummy! but hey recipes are trial and error and you have to make them your own.

  • Simplest recipe yet...

    obrockstar - January 20, 2008 12:48:56 PM PST
It calls for easy to find ingredients and is very simple to make. I used uncooked chicken breasts cut into cubes and the soup tasted just as good. Although I would prefer this recipe in a smaller serving....say for 4.

  • Where does the chicken meat come from?

    Sheryl Segal - January 14, 2008 10:37:37 AM PST
Using chicken bouillion in a pinch is ok, but the resulting soup tastes more of salt than of chicken IMHO. What I do instead is to make and freeze quart containers of chicken broth, either from raw chicken necks and backs, or whenever I buy a cooked chicken, we usually eat about half of it. Then I pull the rest of the meat off, toss the bones and skin into a large saucepan and cover with about 5-6 cups of water. I bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to simmer and let cook for at least 45 minutes. Then I strain out the bones and skin and let the broth cool. Once the broth is cool, I put it in the fridge until the fat congeals and can be skimmed off. I use the broth for chicken soup, and some of the meat goes in there along with chopped onions, celery, carrots, turnips, noodles, and whatever else seems interesting. BTW, I also take off the cooked meat and give it to my doggies. The work is all done in less time than it takes to write it up, tastes better than canned broth or bouillion cubes, and gives your doggie a treat tool

  • A tasty quick meal with one substitution.

    moekittykitty - January 6, 2008 04:31:21 PM PST
I followed this recipe exactly as written using chicken left over from the day before. The only change I made was to use Lower Sodium Chicken Bouillon Cubes. This made a tasty quick mid-day meal. Usually I make my own broth instead of using the cubes but just wanted a quick soup for lunch this time.

  • Hate to eat at your house

    john s - November 12, 2007 07:14:42 AM PST
I'd hate to eat at your house!! LOL

You are missing sooooo much flavor by not sauteing your veggies and stuff first. Why in the world would you boil the noodles first?!?! You must like doing dishes! By boiling the noodles first they never get the chance to soak up the flavor of the actual soup. No salt in chicken noodle soup?! Gee, I bet thats just full of flavor. lol

Salt is not bad for you.For too long we've ignored the fact that blood pressure regulation is more closely tied to calcium, potassium and magnesium than it ever was to sodium.

  • It

    Cheryl H - August 4, 2007 11:30:27 AM PST
I think that this is a good recipe for making the soup. So many times I read these recipes and people comment so negatively. Of course you can make broth in different ways...you could even use canned broth, but the salt content goes up. You can make your own from the chicken parts not eaten and boil them if you want to, but if you wish to make the recipe EXACTLY as this person has taken the time to write, it's just fine as is...especially as a starting ground for someone who's never made chicken noodle soup before. C'mon people...whatever happened to kindness? Why be so mean? All recipes can be modified to taste, but don't shoot down this author for really no reason at all.
