2. Cooking Directions

  1. Cut boneless pork shoulder crosswise into 1/4 inch slices. Partially freezing it will make slicing easier.
  2. In the slow cooker, combine sliced pork, onion, garlic, brown sugar, dry mustard, salt, pepper, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce; mix well, and cover. Cook on Low, stirring occasionally, for 6 to 8 hours or until the meat is tender.
  3. OR : In a Dutch oven or large saucepan, combine pork, onion, garlic, brown sugar, dry mustard, salt, pepper, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce; mix well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and cover. Simmer, stirring occasionally, for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until pork is tender.

Yield: 8 servings

3. Still Hungry?

  • No substitute for the real thing!

This recipe is okay if you want a pot roast. But BBQ requires grilling or smoking the meat over coals including some form of hickory wood in either chips or kindling. Not that liquid stuff that tastes like the crud you scrape off the bottom of your grill once a year. You can make BBQ sauce or not, depending on your preference. That's a lessor priority than the dry rub you prep the meat with prior to cooking. Forget about this recipe and search for "Eastern NC style BBQ" if you want a truly tasteful experience.

  • Is This A Joke?

Barbecue is smoked meat, nothing more and nothing less. The smoke comes from wood. You can't get any wood smoke in a crock pot!!! Fake flavoring out of a bottle won't do it either. Smoked Meat!!! It takes all day. No hot dogs, burgers, steaks or boneless/skinless chicken breasts or gas grills.

  • Subsitutions

I used tomato sauce instead of ketchup, 1/2 C of molassis and 1/2 cup of splenda in place of brown sugar. Lower in carb and taste is excellent!

  • Same Old

Was good but nothing special. For as much time as it took to make and the expense of the ingredients, it tasted just like any other store bought pulled pork.
