Rich and sweet with chocolate chips and walnuts, this banana bread is made with shortening and mayonnaise, making it very moist. This recipe makes 2 loaves.
I have been making banana bread for years and this is a good recipie. As for the comments before, there is a lot of sugar because it has 20 servings, thats a lot of servings. I suggest that instead of shortening I would use unsalted butter in equivelent, that is, in the same amount. Butter adds a better flavor then flavorless shortening.

Oh for pete's sake, it has sugar, just deal. Or, better yet, enjoy!

You can replace some or all of the shortening with apple sauce and add a little less sugar. It will still be moist and delicious but will have a lot less fat and less sugar. Enjoy!

Between the two cups of sugar and the chocolate, it was just way too sweet for my tastes. I tend to steer clear of shortening as well, but gave this a try...too sweet
