This is a perfect way to prepare Thanksgiving leftovers! I can't wait to try it again!

P.S. Adding more cheese makes this even better!

    Hi:

This isn't exactly a review, but this sounds a lot like a recipe that I use where buttermilk is used in place of the soup and sour cream used which may provide a lot less fat and salt.

    The basic recipe is:
    2 cups buttermilk
    2 eggs
    corn tortillas
    1 can green chiles
8 or more shredded extra sharp cheese (or your preference cheddar)
1 cup or more cubed cooked meat - ham, chicken or turkey

Mix the buttermilk, egg and chiles together. Then follow the other recipes directions. This is good served with salsa.

  • Watch the fat content...

    yorlim - November 24, 2006 01:13:49 PM PST
I liked it...as long as one uses fat free sour cream, reduced fat soups and cheese. Did you see the FAT and calorie content...Holy Smokes!!! Plus I used more turkey, added onion and garlic. Also, I prefer flour to corn tortillas.

  • Not too bad!

First note: change up the cheddar cheese for pepper jack or white mexican cheese for a different flavor. Like the other guy said, using garlic is also a nice touch.

Second note: msoyadi, whenever you insult someone by calling them stupid just because they liked a dish that you did not, you make yourself look stupid in the process. By the same logic, I could call YOU stupid just because you DIDN'T like it. Something to think about.

  • Pretty good with minor changes

    blue_skies417 - November 24, 2006 05:26:12 PM PST
I tried this recipe for dinner tonight with a few changes. First, instead of the canned soups, I used the same amount of leftover creamed giblet gravy. I also seasoned each layer with a little more salt, lots of black pepper and garlic powder. I used flour instead of corn tortillas because that's all I had on hand, and I used spicy Hatch green chiles. Maybe with a few more changes, such as adding fresh garlic and onions, I'd definitely make it again.

  • This food is killing us

    underft2003 - January 9, 2008 06:25:22 AM PST
Come on, people, the fat and sodium content is through the roof with these ingredients. You can make healthier food choices rather than killing your family with this junk food dressed up as a casserole sauced with rat-dropping laced canned soups. Ever wonder why they're not posting the sodium content to this recipe?

  • good

Very good, especially with pepperjack cheese instead of cheddar, and using lower fat soups helps. Good recipe.

  • My family gave it a thumb's up (I told them I was writing a review.)

    Cheryl B. - November 25, 2006 09:39:28 PM PST
DH added onion and garlic like someone suggested and a can of chopped olives. Served with steamed broccoli and Costco bagged rolls with leftover pie from Thanksgiving.

My children are 27, 25 and 19 year old daughters. While not "gourmet", it was a good way to use up some turkey leftovers other than the usual turkey enchiladas that we normally make.

I am going to assume you're not in New Mexico, but Hatch Green Chili would just make you crazy!!! Also, try some turkey green chili soup.

  • SW turkey casserole

    lornalu2000 - November 24, 2006 06:23:08 PM PST
there is NO WAY I'd ever make this, seeing how loaded down it is with sodium and fat..did you notice they said nothing about the mg of sodium in this? It'd be far more healthful to just take your turkey and make a sandwich with it out of whole wheat bread!
