My wife and I use a recipe from Joy of Cooking for this dish. You sautee 1/2 onion first, it helps. A little less garlic, too, maybe two cloves. But that is just taste. Also, we use much more vodka, Joy suggested 1/4 cup, but we like 1/2 cup. All the alcohol cooks off, leaving an excellent kick. Lastly, fresh basil is really great with this dish.

I did not remove casing from sasauge but cut them into pieces about 2 inches.
When we reheated portions 3 and 4, I added extra cream to revive the sauce.
My husband, an excellent cook, really liked this dish which means it was a good combo of ingredients! He is very picky!

chuckle....
that was a joke, right?
(the comment about making the recipe healthier by deleting the olive oil and adding more sausage?)

I made this for dinner last night and it was really good. I'm still sort of learning to cook, so it was nice that the directions were nice and easy. I bought ground Italian sausage instead of links so I didn't have to remove the casing and added a little extra garlic. I also added freshly grated Parmesan cheese at the end. It wasn't quite as spicy as I expected, but still really good nonetheless. I'd make it again.

I changed the the recipe a bit.
I omitted the 1/4 C extra virgin olive oil & parsley
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (instead of 1/2)
1 (28 ounce) can chunky tomatoes (instead of crushed tomatoes)
1/2 Cup Light Cream instead of heavy whipping cream
Added 3 sausage links instead of 2.
The dish was very good and I will definitely make it again.

This recipe looks delicious. I haven't tried it yet, but I intend to in the near future.
Someone tried to make this recipe "healthier" by omitting the olive oil (a fat, yes, but a HEALTHY fat), omitting the parsley and other healthy ingredients (which are apparently bad for you?), and adding another UNHEALTHY-fat-laden sausage? Is it opposite day?

Modified the recipe a bit:
Used Turkey Sausage instead of pork, added more crushed red pepper (my husband and I like spicy!), and 1/4 c of vodka instead of 2 tbsp.
All in all, it turned out wonderfully and I'll definitely be making it again.
Yummmm.

I followed the direction to t and it came out great. I did double the vodka to 4 tablespoons and I felt that was just enough and 2 wouldn't have been!

Not as good as everyone is making it sound. I tried with Vodka...ick. So I used a little white wine instead. MUCH better. Chicks dig food, that's why I'm a cook.

Went through all the steps until I discovered I was out of vodka. Too bad, you might think, but not so. I did have just enough Sambucca to fulfill this recipe...WOW. I've since tried it with vodka and it really is much better with Sambucca!

Exactly what is the point of vodka? I mean, ew.
Make it without the vodka and it's by far yummier.
