When it comes to the kitchen, I have the self-control of cookie monster. My eyes go wild and crumbs fly. That means if I want to slim down, I have to be treated like a stubborn child –- and trick myself. Unfortunately, when it comes to dieting, the plane coming into the hangar trick no longer works. Instead, I keep making my favorite foods, only with lighter ingredients. Below are the top 10 recipes that make classic comfort dishes less guilty.

1. A Little Bit Lighter Lasagna

2. Why-the-French-Are-So-Thin Toast

3. A Potato Salad Less Scary

4. The Other Fried Chicken

5. Streamlined Mac & Cheese

6. Wise Fries

7. An Alfredo You Can Actually Eat

8. A Quesadilla That Doesn't Quit

9. Basically a Burger and Totally Delicious

10. The Meaner Leaner BLT-er

To end on a sweet note, try one of these healthier dessert recipes.

I was invited there by our client and ordered the Chateau Briand. It was absolutely horrid, overcooked and full of grizzle....hard to believe but true. Steak and Ale actually does it better. My experience with Filtet Mignion runs parallel to this development. Buenos AIres as a rule has the best stakes followed by Paris ( not necessarily the best quality - just cut, cooked and seasoned better.

I don't care how my beef is raised as long as it was clean and well fed. Basically the only things that affect the taste. The difference of taste is in the cut. Filet minon (think I spelled that wrong) will ALWAYS be the best in my book!

these all look really good. but i'm hoping that there will be meals one day that are dibetic friendly... something that's very low carb and low sugar. or, where the protien ratio is higher... hope to see that soon!

I agree, why not eat less and then you wouldn't have to think of low cal receipes. I'm all for eating healthy and these all sound good but I don't have the time anymore to spend an hour preparing a meal during the week. I'm all for eating less and exercising more. Just burn more calories that what you eat in one day.

Just a nit, but it's an airplane hangar, not hanger.

some people have more money then brains. We would all be better off not eating animal flesh. Believe me I ate USDA choice, growing up in california in the 50's and 60's. After reading about the the abuse of livestock such as dipping live chickens in scalding water. Downed cattle pushed with forklifts. How sick we have become. shame on us. Lets all eat grass.

In my book, Comfort & Joy: Simple Ways to Care for Yourself and Others, I talk about the comfort of eating, which includes the ambience, the people, the conversation, as being equally important to what we are eating. The food and the experience of eating the food together create the comfort factor. Check out the book! -- Colette Lafia (www.colettelafia.com)
