(corrected)----Cattle are gazers (they eat grass). They do not eat grain in nature. They are fed corn because it is subsidized, cheap feed, and because it makes the cattle grow to full size in 18 months which is about how long they can live on this diet. They develop bloat because the corn ferments in their stomachs and are given an antibiotic to keep them alive, and they also develop liver disease which requires a different antibiotic.
Grass fed cattle make more omega-3 (good stuff) which we associate with eating fish, and less omega-6 (bad stuff). Grain fed cattle make no omega-3 and more omega-6, which is bad for you. Dairy cattle are given hormones to increase their milk production...........most of our hamburger meat comes from dairy cattle that are no longer producing at peak capacity.
Eating beef is not bad for you.....eating grain fed beef and meat from dairy cattle is bad for you....eating lots of either, or any food, is not a good idea either.

Are the outsourcing comments serious? Home grown beef jack a$$es. Maybe I'm wrong and Bob Estrin, the rancher mentioned in the article, is actually a Japanese beef exporter. What does outsourcing even have to do with this article? Why am I even commenting on this?
