Please do not use vinegar in your hair if you have a perm. Doesn't matter whether it is white or apple cider vinegar, it will loosen your perm.

Generally good tips. It should be pointed out that a prime cause of baldness is the use of medications, primarily anabolic steroids and tin deficiency. Gray hair can result from copper deficiency.

OK, I know some of you are going to think this is the strangest thing in the world but honest to GOD, it is the absolute TRUTH!!!! I have ALWAYS HAD VERY VERY VERY thick hair. From childhood, my mom would try & put my hair up, she would use a hair tie that is the lg size. If you laid it down, it is a circle of course but it measures about 3-4 inches from side to side all the way around. my mom could only put that around my hair 1 time and if the elastic inside was really stretchy, you can put it around my hair 2X. My mom held my hair like she was going to put in in a pony tail & measured it w/a ruler, it was 4.5 inches.. That was just from top to bottom. Needless to say, she got tired of the mass amount of hair I had & cut it off into a pixie style. I was an overweight kid & sweated alot & my hair was ALWAYS WET. She would have me rinse with apple cider vinegar after I shampooed. OK, now that I am an adult, when I was in my mid 20's I had my stomach stapled. At that time I weighed 509 lbs. Within 1 yr, I had lost almost 200lbs and after 2 yrs, I lost a total of 270lbs. I am 5'8 & very large boned polish gal. I got down to 180 lbs from 509 ;) During that time, my thick, beautiful hair fell out to hair that barely covered my scalp. It was horrible!! I did not understand WHY my hair was falling out. I began to go to a support grp for people that had the same surgery that I had & discovered that everyone had the same symptom of rapid hair loss to rapid weight loss. About 10 yrs later, my veryveryvery thick hair came back and it was soooo long that I sat on it when I sat down. I guess if looking at me from the back, it was down to the back of my knees. I am a brunette & my husband looked over at me & said, I wonder what you would look like as a blonde, I said I have always wanted to know that also. I went to my next door neighbor who was a licensed beauty operator and I told her that I wanted her to make me blonde. We were good friends. She said that she hoped I had alot of money for chemicals cuz my hair is THICK and very very long.. We both laughed and went to the beauty supply store. She mixed and put the stuff on ALLLLL OF MY HAIR and me NEVER HAVING ANYTHING DONE TO MY HAIR OTHER THAN A HAIRCUT, SAT FOR 3 FREAKING HOURS WITH THIS STUFF ON MY HEAD. I asked her several time if it normally took this long and she said NO, but my hair was so long and thick. The stuff Finally started to burn my neck and she told me it was time to rinse it out... I went home and got into the shower & found that I was ...... BALD over 3/4 of my head and the longest piece of hair was only 8 inches long. I screamed and my husb came running.. I got into a towel and ran next door. My Quote Unquote friend just stood there with her eyes as big as quarters. I slapped her & left.. I got dressed & went to a reputible salon who recommended several Redkin products. I used them for 6 weeks and NOTHING. I got tired of spending money for NOTHING so I bought Suave products for dry and damaged hair. That stuff did something to my scalp or hair or something.. My hair began to grow after about 3 weeks and you could almost see the growth. I went to a popular salon in my town and they could not believe what was happening to my hair.. Soooooo I dont know but in my case where my hair was damaged beyond repair, a cheap shampoo/conditioner worked and did the trick. I now have hair that I sell to select salons..

I am going to try the vinegar thing. My hair is thick and curly, I want it to lay down more. But I am also going to look for biotin, as other posters have suggested.

This is a well-researched article which offers excellent advice. I have found that increasing my intake of B-complex vitamins really does help. And for those who don't know, biotin is a B vitamin.
