Try all these without adding ice, but use cold milk from the fridge..., they are more taste without water... Then if you are on diet, bananas, strawberies or cherries do not need extra sweetener (so forget the sugar or honey...). Also, if you need to eat something taste, for an easy digestion but a lot of callories, than take a cup of fruits, a cup of fresh cold milk, two teaspunfull of brown sugar and a fresh eg and place all the ingredients in a blender than pulse until smooth...

I would never use sugar for sweetening a smoothie. I use pure maple syrup and sometimes a bit of real pure vanilla extract. A tiny amount really brings out the flavors. Also, I NEVER use ice. It waters down the flavors too much. Frozen fruit is enough to make your smoothies slushy. Try freezing your ripening bananas in individual packages (zip lock or clear plastic wrap). These recipes look too wonderful to use sugar to sweeten.

Oh, and try rice milk instead of cow's milk for a naturally sweeter taste. (I use rice milk in soups, too. Tastes especially good in curry soups; replaces coconut milk wonderfully).

I use sucralose (Splenda) for sweetener and try to get natural, fresh fruit when available otherwise I use frozen. Also, I use plain unflavored ACTIVE yogurt. Occasionally I will use soy milk. Super healthy and so super delicious!

Splenda is not healthy. "Splenda, also known as sucralose, is artificial sweetener which is a chlorinated sucrose derivative" - yes, cholrinated like cholrine in your pool! See, http://www.holisticmed.com/splenda/ and many other articles on line.

My favorite smoothie consists of 1 cup of fresh orange juice, 1 cup plain yogurt, 1 banana (optional) and two handfuls of frozen strawberries - sweeten with Splenda if desired. This is incredibly fruity, nutritious and doesn't separate as it would with ice and water. You'll have to stir it with a spoon to get the strawberries down to the blade of the blender - you'll love this! It's better than a fruit smoothie and thicker!

I have been making these for years and have customized them to my taste and needs....I use, half of banana, strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, milk or vanilla flavored soy milk, one cup of crushed ice. Fantastic! No artificial sweeteners!

try using green seedless grapes, a banana, and ice. put in blender for the most refreshing smoothie ever. This eliminates dairy for those who are lactose intolerant . Any smoothie can be milk free just by using very juicy fruits and ice. no need for sugar either as most fruits are sweet by nature. pineapple, mango ,berries etc. and the banana is the bulk I am having lots of fun with this as I had to eliminate raw sugar from my diet d/t diabetes II. good luck

I like them pretty simple, usually fresh straberries, a frozen banana, crushed ice, maybe a dash of grapfruit crystal light powder and for an evening beverage I add a little vodka (leave out vodka for a great breakfast drink!

this recipe is a farce. its a milk shake recipe with sugar. smoothies were and are an alternative to the milk shake crap. you actually have no idea of what your doing or talking about.

I love these, when I go to the market I buy plenty of fruit and freeze it in containers, or bags, ready to take out and blend. During the summer we visit the PYO farms and I stock up on berries. I always use yogurt with milk or water, and if necessary a bit of honey. DD drinks them too! Perfect for anytime of the day!

Smoothies are so easy. I use yogurt in the dairy usually plain vanilla or lime in the plain I put some pure vanilla, fruit such as blueberries , strawberries or raspberries, peaches pears pineapple or any frozen fruits these work the best. I choose one or two of these fruits and then I put a banana if I have one and this is an easy nutritional smoothie. I do not add sugar to mine at all. The fruits have enough sugars in them. These are some I just did myself. Mango is also good. Do not need ice with the frozen fruits. I use Soy, rice or Non fat fresh organic milk about 3/4 cup. It is easy delicious and a good way to start the day for nutrition. Hope you will try this. I do not measure the fruit maybe 1/4 cup would be OK

i think you are all missing the point. of course there are all kind of variations! using healthier ingredients, etc. but these are mexican style liquados that are found in all the "mercados" and will not have their unique taste and texture unless you make them as instructed.

I have tried this type of shake before, there are lots of ways to make them depending on your tastes. They also fill me up so I eat less throught the day when I eat them for breakfast and add a scoop of protein powder to them for added energy!
have to agree with others that you don't need to add all the water if you want the thickness or the ice if the fruit is frozen and...adding yogurt (non-fat vanilla is my preference) is a great way to enhance flavors.
Also, I use honey as my #1 sweetner of choice since it is natural and if you use honey that is made in your local area, it has benefits like helping sustain allergies and...goes great with the yogurt!

These recipes are pretty basic and lack healthy opportunites. Light yogurt is a must, protein powder for kids is great. V8 pomegranate juice instead of water, OJ and ice. It is a full serving of veggies without sugar to sweeten. Smoothies are tricks of the trade for lots of vitamins. Use soy milk for soy protein instead of cows milk. One basic recipe is OK, but why so many without creativity?

They lack yogurt cause they are Licuados, Mexican smoothies, as opposed to the higher calorie ones we are used to. They are delicious, and with ripe, seasonal fruit, no sweetener is needed.
