To Tara: I substituted Egg Beaters (tm) for the egg, used a sugar substitute, 1% milk and fried them in canola oil. They tasted fantastic!

A touch of cinnamon adds quite a twist. Add it to the flour mixture.

What is it some of you don't understand about the word treat? This is for a special thing/time and certainly not the whole recipe by yourself at one sitting! Try practicing moderation and in the meantime, have A fritter - they're delicious.

If you dont like the recipe and feel that its not good for YOUR body why post a negative comment on here? Geeshhhhh get a life why dont you and leave the bad comments out. If you cant say something nice dont say anything at all. Oh and its NOT customary to include serving size , calories, etc. That info is optional, but if you ask nicely I am sure you can receive it. Oh and the recipe is very good if you want something sweet once in a while.

Every time I get my coffee at Starbucks I oggle the apple fritters and then have my black coffee with toast I bring with me. No way I'm eating something like that. Not even once in a while.

Yummy! My mom makes baked apples by cutting out the core and putting in some cinnamon and sugar. She places it on a cookie sheet and bakes it for about 10 minutes. Mmmm!

12&13 need to get their minds out of the gutter, and you can have anything you like as long as it is in moderation (quadropal by-pass here) and I do believe that america in a melting pot of all countries, so unless you have something that is of American Indian all recipes came from somewhere else. Sounds great and my grandchildren will love them. (in moderation)

These look awesome! And for all of you naysayers... If you don't like them...THEN DON'T EAT THEM! Also stop eating all the other things that made you fat and unhealthy while you are at it!!

What is so artery clogging about this recipe? Look at the ingredients: The only things with cholesterol are 1/2 cup of milk and 1 egg for 36 servings. The oil is not bad; just use canola. No food is evil, just use a little self control and don't eat them all by yourself!

I just need to add my $.02 in response to comment #78 by fillmore6945 - the only apples native to North America are crab apples - so I'm not sure ANY apple treat is particularly American, unless its crab apple pie. I understand that wasn't your point, I just felt the need to point it out anyway.

The recipe sounds great, looks easy enough to make. To the pansy asses out there who are whining about this being fattening keep chewing on your tree bark muffin god knows you need a wicker set just for the fiber content.

And most Dutch aren't fat! For them it is a yearly treat which is only briefly available in streetcars, usually in December, in preparation of New Year's Eve. Variants contain European vanilla custard (not as sweet as American and more solid) , whipped cream, rum/raisins, strawberries, pineapple, banana or cherries (kept in syrup) , or you make the fulffy smaller friiters without anything in it with powder sugar on top or/and with currants inside..

What a great sounding recipe! I was just looking for a fried apple recipe and here this pops up. It seems like a nice treat for a special occasion, AND if I make it myself (as opposed to buying it somewhere) I'll know exactly what's in it. YUMMY! And for those who are so worried about fat and calories and clogging arteries...why are you reading apple fritter recipies? Don't spoil it for everyone else!

these arent that bad for you people...its a piece of apple with some flour and sugar on it. just because you "deep fry" something, doesnt make it unhealthy. there are oils you can use that are healthier and if the thing isnt dripping with oil, its really not that bad...
