Tired of the Same-Old Caffeine Routine?

Bored with making cup after cup of coffee or tea on autopilot? Take your caffeine habit on a trip to Southeast Asia and try Thai iced tea or Vietnamese hot or cold coffee instead. Sweetened condensed milk, a key ingredient in both, adds both sugar and milk in one shot and gives the drinks a unique flavor. Here's how to make your next coffee break a little more interesting:

Thai Iced Tea

  1. Brew a pot of strong black tea.
  2. Add two pieces of chinese star anise (availabile in many grocery stores) and a cinnamon stick to the pot.
  3. Allow the tea to cool.
  4. Pour over ice and add sweetened condensed milk to taste.

Vietnamese Coffee (hot and cold)

  1. Pour about 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk into the bottom of a glass cup.
  2. Place an individual coffee filter with a lid on top of the cup and add enough French Roast ground coffee to make a strong individual cup, then slowly add boiling water until the cup is nearly full, taking care not to disturb the condensed milk on the bottom. If you don't have little coffee filter pots, just brew a pot of dark French Roast coffee and slowly and gently pour coffee into each cup, taking care not to disturb the condensed milk on the bottom.
  3. To drink, stir the sweetened condensed milk into the coffee. Each person stirs their own.

For iced Vietnamese Coffee, simply add sweetened condensed milk to cold, strong, French Roast coffee.

Chai Iced-Tea is my favorite! It's great for the extra energy and cheaper than those energy drinks and better for you! You need: Chai Tea (2-3 bags) Stash is a great brand and cheap too or you can buy it pre-mixed in a box. 1/2 C Milk Honey-- to sweeten Ice (if desired) TO DO: Brew up some chai tea Let cool and... add Milk, and Honey to sweeten. Ice (if you want it cold) YUMMM!!!!

I belong to the LDS church and coffee is against my religion, where we have what we believe to be direct revelation from Heavenly Father saying that coffee, tea, alcohol, etc. are not for the body. It is not just because of the caffeine, but there are bad things in coffee, chemicals and such, that are unhealthy. But I didn't drink coffee or tea even before I joined this church.
