I just got an email from my mom alerting me to the fact that Kornet Pizza has opened in Oak Park Mall in Overland Park, Kansas, not far from where I grew up.

You don't know how much this hurts, ladies and gents.

You see, Kornet Pizza makes pizza cones (pictured). And I've been dying to try one of these things since I first heard about them in April of 2004, when Kono Pizza first surfaced in Italy. Since then, they also appeared as a short-lived street-food fad in South Korea.

And now, my mom emails me, basically telling me that one of my white whales of pizza, one of my holy grails of food, had been just a 20-minute drive away at the mall—and likely was there the whole time I was in the KC metro area for Christmas.

Not only that, but the article that my mom referenced from the local paper said that this is the first U.S. branch of Kornet Pizza. Would you look at that—and in the very mall I used to rat around as a teen-ager.

All any of us non–Kansas City people can do is wait till Kornet Pizza franchises open in our neck of the woods.

KORNET PIZZA
Address: In the food court of Oak Park Mall, 11519 West 95th Street, Overland Park KS 66214
Cost: Starts at $3.99; a dessert version is available as well

This is possibly the most useless bit of NEWS I have ever seen. Wow, the folks from the pizzaria went out for sushi and all the sudden came up with a wonderful idea! How amazingly unique of them to put food into a cone. If only I shared a tiny portion of their marketing genius... -Trenton Goodwin

I tried that at the mall a few months back. ...sucked. All the heat gets trapped in the bottom, along with the grease, and you end up burning your frickin mouth, or just eating it cold.
