Healty v. happiness. There is no want of food when you die so I might have to hit the gym a little longer than normal now, but at least i know ill enjoy life and not niss out on anything.

Generally when I go out with several people...we get one dessert and enough forks, or spoons, so that everyone can have a taste. Life is too short not to eat something wonderful sometime.

Yay for Hungry Girl! She's just lookin' out for those who are interested in keeping things low cal/low fat. She's not telling anyone that they're not allowed to eat these desserts or even suggesting that they smuggle dessert into the resturant. If you are happy with who you are and can eat whatever you want, go for it! But if you're looking for yummy desserts with healthier stats, look toward HG!!
I think that getting those absolutely ridiculously high calorie counts out there for people to see is service enough. . . I don't care if it is a company trying to push it's product instead. The calorie amounts are unhealthy (even if you just do it once). Our bodies were not meant for such intakes. One cigarette will not kill you, but you will suffer a health effect from it. Lets take care of our bodies America.

This is probebly great advice to most of you. Honestly, my opinion of the whole diet thing is, is that women are not meant to be rail thin. They are meant to have curves, thats why when we hit puberty, we start growing breasts and hips. Most of my childhood witnessed my mother and her struggles with weight problems and how much it stressed her out. I understand the want to diet and I respect those who do it, but counting calories and carbs and crap like that is NO way to live. So when you go out, order that dessert. If you've been counting calories all day, you can eat that and count them again tomorrow. Everyone deserves a reward for being good, even if supposed diet experts say that it's bad.

I find these articles helpful in that people half the time honestly don't know what they're putting in their mouths. Although I agree that eating these sort of things once in a while is okay, many people eat this sort of thing more than 3-4 times a week! Not only is the fat and calorie intake horrendous, but so is the carbohydrate and cholesterol. As for using Smart Ones as an alternative, at least she is giving people an alternative. Many people either can't be bothered to find one, or don't know where to start looking.

I am pretty sure the aim of HG's alternative suggestions was to find a low-cal dessert similar to the outrageously fatty, insanely high-caloric desserts found at these restaurants. Personally I think finding out the calorie and fat count of restaurant food is a good thing. People on here are suggesting "oh, if you eat it only once in a while, it's not bad." Yeah, you're right, except the problem is that the majority of people AREN'T eating it just once in awhile, hence having such a problem with obesity nowadays. I live in the are that "Fast Food Nation" was based on, and people eat out ALL the time here. You used to see waits for restaurants on Friday and Saturday nights, but now it's every night of the week.
I don't always agree with HG's articles but I think this one is right on the money. And I totally prefer the SmartOnes desserts now. Weight Watchers also makes fantastic, low-cal desserts. Heck, even Breyers makes 100-calorie cups of ice cream.

SMART ONES uses an untested sugar substitute. It is a poisonous chemical and quite possibly causes cancer. They are putting it in everything now and it is NOT FOOD.
FOOD has calories. FOOD has fat. FOOD has sugar. Eat FOOD in moderation and skip the cancer-causing chemicals.
Cook most of your food at home and go out for a nice (non-chain) meal once every week or two. Don't buy prepackaged overprocessed chemical laden POISON.

I eat out like twice a month, and I dont know about anyone else but rarely do we get dessert. I know when i was working at a restaurant people rarely got desserts. But if you're going to go out and eat and get dessert, just dont eat as much of your dinner share a dessert, and Jeez when will people realize that they just need to get thier lazy buns off thier la-z-boys and take a jog. Eat what you want, excersize, not because you overate even, just freaking excersize and you'll be fine either way.

I think you idiots are missing the point. HG is just trying to give people an alternative to the desserts and letting them know how many calories they have. I try and keep my daily intake from 1500-2000 a day, depending on how active I am. I am glad that I now know how many calories are in the Chili's dessert, so I will never order it again! It isn't 'worth it' to me. I would rather eat a smart ones or a healthy choice ice cream bar. I know, HOW HORRIBLE! I would eat something-gasp-ARTIFICIAL!!! Do you guys realise how many preservatives are in those restaurant desserts? They sit in the freezer for about a month before dethawing and microwaving them for your pleasure. I have worked in Macaroni Grill, Chili's, and many others. So I think I will stick with my lower calorie treats and once in a blue moon I will enjoy a fatty slice of cake from my neighborhood bakery.

I actually clicked on this page to see if the few desserts I have splurged on were listed. Reading the comments is a hoot!!! Some of you people seem to want to fight with everyone!! Are you all related to Rosie O'Donnell??? Life goes by way too quickly to be on the lookout for something always "wrong" ... just enjoy life, let people all have their own opinions, whether they eat healthy or splurge. I appreciate the article for what it is, and will consider it when eating at one of the named restaurants. Other than that, let it be, and chill people, chill.

thanks for the tips!! for those of you who say " i eat what i want", well, maybe that is why this country is so obese! she is just giving alternatives to these high calorie, high fat selections. if you dont like her suggestions, then get your own. yes, it is nice to indulge every once in a while, but i would not have known exactly how bad those desserts were if she had not pointed it out. Thanks HG!!

if u wanna sit there and count how many calories u eat a day.... then dont waste ur time going out to eat b/c the point of restaurants is to endulge yourself every now and then and if your too lazy to cook for yourself ... why do u care what u look like... u obviously dont care to take care of urself so what should it matter?

That is surprising – I mean splitting some of these is still more than half your calorie intake per day, LOL. However I’ve lost weight since I started eating what I want until I’m “Full” and that is the key word. Most people feel the need to finish all on their plate and I don’t. I will order an In and Out Burger but I won’t eat all the fries. I try not to snack too much in-between meals and when I do it’s small like crackers or nuts or fruit. I go out to dinner with my BF once or twice a week and we always split dessert and have drinks – prior I worked out 5 days a week and eat really healthy but because I eat “so healthy” I ended up eating MORE calories then I do now because I never felt full and was snacking all the time. I went from 5’3” 122 lbs to 112 lbs (and haven’t really worked out in 2 months minus my power walks once or twice a week) by eating how I do now i.e. everything in moderation and agree real sugar is better than fake – the fake makes you crave MORE sweets hence you end up eating more calories as you snack more then if you just had a few bites of the real thing. Heck for me 3, 4 bites is good enough from splitting dessert – the icing on the cake as they say after a nice meal. Cheers, Small Peanut

This is stupid. The point of going out to a resturant is because you want to eat out! Why would I wait till I got home to make my dessert. If I didn't eat it at the resturant I probably wont eat it at all. Anyways like everyone else has been saying it's a treat to go out to eat so you might as well indulge once in a while.

have you heard about PRESERVATIVES? HYDROGENATED OILS?NOR ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS THAT CONTAIN ASPARTAME?(w/c causes cancer!) Girl, You need to do some reading.....You are recommending pre-packaged, processed and preservative packed foods that I don't even consider edible. Please, to all of you health concern reader's.... do your research before putting some un-recognizable ingredient in your mouth. Don't be fooled by some suggestions of whoever.Remember it's your own body that would take the toll later. Stick to anything "ALL NATURAL" preferrably "Organic" foods in general because you can never go wrong.

I really like these hungry girl postings. They make me laugh and they make me think. I had no idea some of these items had all these calories. I rarely order dessert because I am so full but occasionally we will go out for dessert alone and this is great information.
