This is the first time I have read some stuff that HG has posted, and lemme tell you for someone that has struggled with dieting and exercising these are some great snack ideas. But instead of focusing on the snacks, I have focused on eating more veggies and some fruits and definitely lots of chicken. Every now and then people just crave some things, and better to have one of these low cal, low fat snacks than to pig out on a bag of potato chips or ice cream.

i've tried gayle's miracle truffles and let me tell you...they are DISGUSTING and do not taste like chocolate. plus they're pretty expensive. seriously, just go buy a candy bar. if you just eat one, it's really not that awful.

I've also found that Blue Bunny has out a 1/2 gal No Sugar Added variety of ice creams like "Brownie Sundae", "Butter Pecan", "Caramel Toffee Crunch", "Very Berry Strawberry", Chocolate/Vanilla, and my fav of all of them is the "Bunny Tracks" which has chocolate/peanut butter/caramel and peanuts mixed in. VERY GOOD STUFF. It's 90 cal per serving (1/2 cup) for the Brownie Sundae...but it's Fat Free and No Sugar Added...I'd def try them out from your local grocer! Anytime I have a sugar attack I have a little bowl of my Bunny Tracks and I'm satisfied! It's delish!

I honestly would not encourage people to eat things so artificial and processed.. truly, most people who stick in there for a while will even stop craving as many carbs because their body doesn't need it. Infact.. I've seen many times when someone who used to be a sweet a holic can't even eat a quarter of a twinkie, or 6 ounces of soda after perservering through a no refined sugar diet for a few months

Wow, I'm surprised at the amount of people who are intent on blasting every option presented as actually being unhealthy, or having no nutritional value -- HG's not claiming these are meals! These are designed to be less-terrible-for-you ways to indulge. Why is that hard to understand?

Has anyone checked the ingredients for high fructose corn syrup on any of these so-called low calorie foods? If you do some research you'll see that high fructose corn syrup is much worse for you, especially if you're trying to limit your food intake. I've seen it in Slim-Fast shakes, Yoplait yogurt and shakes to name a few. I think it's a shame that even these types of foods that are pushed as being healthy and low calorie are actually causing you to crave more food!

everyone is always so negative when people give suggestions on low fat eating. Not only does dieting suck but its hard to stick to. protein bars are like eating wood, so how about not ruining it for some of us who have normal cravings and sometimes just want to indulge a bit. You only live once, live it healthy, not boring!

What I did was a lot easier than all of this. Let's face it, the best part of chocolate is the taste of it, not swallowing it. What I did was grab a chocolate syrup bottle, chug it without swallowing. Then spit the rest out in the kitchen sink. It took care of my cravings with hardly any calories. Lost 30 lbs in less than 4 months using this method every other day. I know it's gross, but it works!!

I understand the desire to control ones weight, I too am engaged in the same struggle. But one thing I cannot do is eat these foods made up of artificial sweetners, chemical preservatives and other junk that actually do the body more harm than good. A small piece of REAL dark chocolate with natural sweetners will do more for your body and soul! EAT REAL FOOD!!!

I need something that doesn't taste like chocolate to kill my craving for chocolate. If it tastes or smells like chocolate, that only increases my craving!!

I hate how every snack on this list is nothing but an overly processed, nutrionally void product. Eat a freakin apple. If you are craving sweets/sugar, it's because your body needs FRUIT, not low-fat-diet-low-carb-soy-mocha-choca ice cream. People would feel so much better, physically, if they just ate naturally...as if there was no such thing as "junk food" in the first place. It's all in your head. Your body doesn't need this stuff. I understand it's hard to eat natural foods, because I have a hard time with it too...I'm way too used to grabbing for a pudding when I should be grabbing for a banana. But you just have to make the right choices, and if you slip up, forget about it and focus on the next time a snack craving comes your way. It IS possible to kick the junk food addiction, you just have to be willing to do it. And as for those 100 calorie snack packs? Yeah, I've tried them. They were disgusting. I have a whole box of them just sitting in my cabinet because they tasted horrible. I don't see what the big deal is about those things. The cookies taste nothing like the originals. I should probably throw them out, lol. But yeah, all of this stuff is just plain bad for you, low cal or not. Just try to stick with what the planet provides for you, even if you just start with one serving of fruit more than what you're eating now each day. You'll begin to feel better. :)

I have to say that I do try to stay away from processed food, however there are certain days in the month that I had better have some chocolate and I think that these are ok as an alternative to a triple layer chocolate cake. Not to mention that these types of food are complex sugars. Until recently I didn't realize that fresh fruits are simple sugars. What this means is your body immediately stores them unless they are burned. Which is why drinking grape juice, or eating strawberries before a work out is so effective. Your body immediately burns it and uses it as energy. So if your just eating fresh fruits with no exercise your really not helping yourself out any. At any rate, back to the main point, processed food is not good for your body. However I dare you to try and take a woman's chocolate away from her during those few days a month..I promise you'll realized that it's ok as long as she's happy.

Wow!! This article was great! I have been thin all my life but I am nearing 30. I usually eat very healthy but when I look at sweets I never even look at calories let alone sugar content. I refuse to live a lifestyle run by diets. This really helped me see how I can have my cake and eat it to without the guilt. Thank you.

I'd rather have and savor two pieces of Dove Dark Chocolate (84 calories!) than any of the above mentioned items. Most of the time, just one piece will do the trick. In my opinion, moderation is the key - not substitution.

I agree with those who commented that there is more to food than calories. Even though low in calories, there is not much nutirition in the examples offered. Two weeks ago, I decided to cut out "white foods" from my diet -- flour, white pasta, white rice, sugar, etc. I have lost six pounds, which is great, but almost as good is the fact that I'm sleeping better! I used to wake up at about 2:00 am several times a week and not be able to go back to sleep. Now I'm sleeping through the night every night. I recently read that the sudden drop in blood sugar that occurs several hours after eating sweets can cause you wake up at night. I had never known this before.

Hello.. i think the main problem here is chocs, ice cream etc are much much cheaper than all the stuff you are suggesting..that's make diet a lot difficult to maintain..it might be really helpful if the healthy choice is the easier choice as well as the cheaper choice..don't you think so? money does play a major role in anyone's diet :)

I was hoping for 'real' food that would take away the cravings for the "J" vitamins (junk food). I did not read all of the comments, but it would be nice for some support.

Don't you all see that this is nothing more than a commercial for more processed junk food? This is not "news" it is a commercial paid for by the companies featured. Eat something the body needs instead.

Watch what else you are ingesting - dyes, chemical preservatives and artifical anything is bad news. Sugar is only 16 calories a teaspoon, it is natural, not colored or processed. Don't be fooled, companies are out there to make money, they are not required to provide anything nutritious. Caveat Emptor!!!

Welsh's makes some great 80 calorie per package natural fruit snacks, and I love individual sized applesauce. Also a square or two of Dove chocolate usually satisfies any chocolate cravings or the fat free pudding cups mentioned above. I agree that it's usually best to try and stay natural with unprocessed fruits and veggies. But if you're like me you're too busy to do the regular grocery shopping that fresh fruits and veggies require (they go bad so fast!)
