Why would anyone want to substitute anything on Thanksgiving? Don't go crazy but eat a little of every thing you like. The whole idea is to enjoy the special treats. Zesty salad with a lo-cal dressing? Puleeeez!!

As a person that have had a gastric bypass eating (specially fats and starches) are a big no no for me. I do eat the turkey and the veggies, but no in one seating but rather in the form of little snacks during the day. I stay away from all the starches. I also make dishes that could easily work for any diet.
My menu is as follows: Roast turkey w/low fat gravy, dressing, vegetable salad w/olive oil and rice wine vinegar, string bean casserole with low/non-fat cream of mushroom with sauteed (with PAM) onions Yummy! With respect to desserts what is wrong with fresh fruit and some low fat cheeses.

I also love her website. However, I think Thanksgiving is the perfect meal to indulge in. If you follow most of Hungry Girl's rules and you exercise through out the year, one Thanksgiving meal is not going to turn you into Shamu's cousin. Advice from a personal trainer: exercise a bit longer both on and the day after Thanksgiving and indulge yourself with a few small portions of all of your favorites.

I love HG! However the fried turkey- that is interesting because I read last year as long as you don't eat the skin and stick to white meat the calories aren't any different? That scares me because that is my family cooks there turkey for the past 3 years!! yikes!!

I admire everyone who is trying to better their health by losing weight, BUT one day a year you should indulge yourself and eat whatever you want, within reason of course. Life is too short to deny yourself all the time. And salad with low fat dressing should not even be in the house on Thanksgiving. Have the turkey and some dressing and mashed potatoes with gravy and a big buttered roll. Then have a small slice of pie or cake. If you gain a pound, it will not be the end of the world. Go back to the diet the next day. It will be okay. Live !!!!!!!

This is the worst Thanksgiving meal plan I've ever seen. Why not just make a different kind of feast, rather than trying to 'fool' the family and serve fake foods?

Thanksgiving without GREAT TRADITONAL (unhealthy if you eat it EVERY day) cooking???? 4th of July without BBQs and Fireworks and Parades? The very worst thing a guest can do is show up to someone's house and claim "they're on a diet" or pick at their food. I didn't cook a lavish meal to have someone do that at my dinner table. That's IGNORANT

Doing away the apple pies and pumpkin will do away of THANKSGIVING traditional! I know ppl want to lose a few calories and watch their weight but NO NEED on these holidays! Might as well forgetting the holidays! Hey everone is entitled to their own opinion and this is mine. Aside from it all, your page rocks!.
