5 Kitchen Gadgets That Will Help You Lose Weight

Get ready to wave buh-bye to messes, bulky appliances, and even a few extra pounds. Hungry Girl's got five MUST-HAVES for anyone with a kitchen...

A Kitchen Scale

Do not resist! This is the kind of tool that is completely necessary for anyone who's ever been baffled by the number on their bathroom scale. That bowl of cereal each morning could contain THREE TIMES the serving size. And that "petite" steak you grilled up last night could actually be a 12-ouncer. Measure and weigh out your food! It's D.I.Y. portion control.

Magic Bullet Platinum Pro

We're pretty convinced that there's nothing this beefed-up Bullet can't blend. Frozen fruit? No problem. Ice? Bring it on. When you whip up amazing smoothies, soups, and sauces with this thing, you can make them all healthier by controlling exactly what goes in them. Hungry Girl tested and Hungry Girl approved! Psssst... You can't beat it for blending up Fiber One for faux-fried foods.

Lock & Lock Storage

These little miracle containers have eliminated the following weekly occurrences from our lives...

-Scarfing down fast food mega-meals because there was nothing else to eat for lunch.

- Tossing less-than-fresh leftovers 'cuz the lid was left open a smidge

- Cleaning up spills from bringing a saucy meal to work in a leaky plastic tub. (Teriyaki-stained documents impress no one.)

These guys mean serious, airtight business. And the ones with the handles make fantastic lunch boxes for adults. Carry it proudly, people!

SmartShopper Grocery List Organizer

When you know exactly what you're at the store to buy, you're less likely to make impulse purchases from the cookie aisle. Food shopping (and errand running!) has never been easier. This handy gadget is a voice-activated little helper that'll keep you organized by printing out all your lists. You talk to it, and it prints out what you say. It'll even sort your items by where they're found in the store! How fun and futuristic is THAT?!

"I am not a paper cup..." Thermal Porcelain Cup

Bringing your own coffee on the go can save you hundreds of calories on Starbucks concoctions. Plus, two dollars and change times five days a week = WAY too much to be spending on your morning coffee! And there's something slightly awful about tinny aluminum thermoses and something super-pleasing about sipping your beverage from one of those plastic white cups from places like The 'Bucks. That's why this thing ROCKS. It looks like your average coffeehouse takeout cup (lid and all!), but it's actually reusable, microwave-safe, and dishwasher-safe. Score! Now you can whip up one of our Hungry Girl hot beverages and enjoy it on the go!

I am so glad you said that about the aluminum coffee mugs!!! I thought it was just me that hated drinking out of them! I have tried and tried to make myself get used to it, but to no avail! Thank you for the best tip around! Now, where can we buy these things???

Hey, ladies! Tupperware is fab for the weight concious too! I have FridgeSmarts and -I kid you not!- they keep salad and lettuce fresh for up to two weeks! I eat more of it now because it is always ready and appetizing, not going slimy like it does if left in original packaging! And they have divided dishes that can go from fridge or freezer to microwave, making it easy to portion control ahead of time! Just a tip I thought I'd share!

I think this isn't so much losing weight as getting paid for endorsing products as 'news'.

I eat smaller portions and these items are great but exercise is the key. How many of you can walk to 75% of the places you do anything at that are 20 minutes away? Getting fat starts every time you get in an automobile and go for distances shorter than 15 minutes. Yes it might take you 25 to walk there but the health benifits are astounding. I live in the city and don't own a car..haven't in a couple years now. I do drive and use transportation when the need arises. Happy New Year to you all.

I agree with the eat less and exercise more, but, the gadgets are fun. I love the magic bullet and I already walk 1 mile and ride a bike 3 miles each day. I just need to eat right, exercise more and not eat in between meals, plus follow my diabetic menus.

All you need is a VitaMix...pricey but worth every penny. We have not had one meal out in the 3 weeks since we purchased ours...I figured we've already made our money back with that only...plus we are much healthier. Get the VitaMix...it will change your life for the better!

Diets don't work. I have been on everyone. I even had my stomach stapiled. Gain my weight back after three years. This past year I lost 60 pounds. The best diet I have ever done. It wasn't about all these gadgets. I ate everything an anything. I made healthy food choices an portion control. If I wanted a cookie I had a cookie. Not a dozen. I have found as soon as someone tells me 'I Can't Have' the eating gets out of control. So I do have only a small portion. I also know when you give up sugar after 2 weeks you really don't want it. I think you feel so much better by eating healthy. My problem is excerise.

It seems we like gadgets to help us loose weight, but the tried and really true way to loose weight and keep it off is use more calaries than we eat. I think portion control and not to not deny oneself. One can go into baskin robins and ask for one of their "taste" spoons fuls. Oh, and don't forget to drink lots and lots of water. It fills the stomach and helps the mind think the stomach is full. It's Our mind is what holds us back from achiving weight loss, if you think (over and over) "I just can't do this" you can't, be positive, and yes we can control that weight

I think many people missed the point of this article. It is an article on gadgets that can help some people in their quest to change eating habits. Not an endorsement for products or how to lose weight. I recently got a kitchen scale, not an expensive digital just a simple one for 9 dollars. It has really helped me determine portion control on what I eat, I use it everyday. I do count calories and the scale takes any guess work out of it. I can see where the other things could also help..make protein shakes..if you workout and don't get enough protein, you will not lose fat, so many people have protein shakes. It is always nice to have containers to keep veggies fresh if you are single or have a family who doesn't like veggies. Anyone knows that these are not the magic cure for weight loss, but can be a great help to those who take the correct direction.
