The big meal is over. Now it's time to figure out what to do with all the extra food you've got. Hungry Girl's here with tips & tricks to help...
* 'Tis the season for a serious turkey sandwich! Our best advice is that you stick with white meat (remember -- dark meat has 30-40% more fat!), light bread (or at least whole-grain, high-fiber stuff -- or a high-fiber tortilla), and lots of veggies. Finally, skip the mayo and go straight for Dijonnaise. Not only does Dijonnaise have a mere 5 calories per teaspoon, but it's also great with turkey.
* Use a SMALL bowl for eating leftovers of anything you know is high in calories and fat. Don't chow straight from your Tupperware!
* Don't feel like you HAVE to eat that food just because it's there. It'll stay good for several days, so don't force yourself to eat meal after meal of green bean casserole and stuffing. Pace yourself!
* Mix the good in with the bad. Love mashed potatoes? Mix 'em with steamed veggies, season them well, and you'll get more mileage out of your spuds.
* If you have WAY too much of something and will never finish it before it goes bad (and you REALLY don't want to see it go bad), freeze it! Those heavy-duty Ziploc freezer bags work wonders.
* Got a LOT of cookies hanging around? Have a little post-holiday party or get-together and set them out. Hopefully, your buddies will eat them for you... and maybe they'll even bring you presents!
* If you're the host, try to send as much of the "bad" stuff away as possible! Pick up some of those cheapie plastic tubs -- that way you can get rid of food without getting rid of your best containers. And if you're a guest, don't take all your favorite fatty foods home with you. No matter how much the host begs you to...
* As tempting as it is, don't have dessert for breakfast -- that'll just set you up for a disastrous day. Instead, use some turkey to make a tasty, protein-packed egg white scramble (yay, protein!). Just promise yourself a little sliver of pumpkin pie after lunch.
* If, by some chance, you get just plain sick of turkey sandwiches, turn that turkey meat into something else altogether! Season it with taco sauce and seasoning for a turkey taco salad. Or shred it up and mix with some BBQ sauce... the options are endless (and delicious)!
