Don't Pile on Holiday Pounds: 7 Seasonal Diet-Friendly Eats

Summer's over, but Hungry Girl's got a whole new group of snacks to get you into the spirit of the fall season...

Litehouse Reduced Sugar Caramel Dip in 100-Calorie Cups
1 container = 100 calories, 0.5g fat, 29g carbs, 7g fiber, 1g protein

You can have caramel apples on the go... guilt-free! These sweet portion-controlled tubs go so well with apple slices (Fujis are our favorite!) that you'll forget all about last season's fattening frozen summer treats.

David Roasted & Salted Pumpkin Seeds
One 0.75-oz. package =
90 calories, 7g fat, 2g carbs, <1g fiber, 5g protein

A fall staple and good for you, too! Chomp happily and safely, thanks to that cute little 90-calorie bag. Or you can get crafty and roast your own seeds. Just preheat the oven to 250 degrees, rinse and dry the seeds well, and toss with cooking spray and spices (like pumpkin pie spice... yum!). Pop 'em in the oven for about 45 minutes and voila -- snack time!

Alpine Sugar-Free Spiced Cider Apple Flavored Drink Mix
1 pouch = 15 calories, 0g fat, 4g carbs, 0g fiber, 0g protein

This stuff is amazing all by itself, but if you want something totally indulgent, make our Caramel Apple Cinnamon Surprise! It's the perfect sweet sipper for this time of year.

Emerald Nuts Cocoa Roast Almonds, Dark Chocolate Flavor

1/4 cup = 150 calories, 13g fat, 6g carbs, 3g fiber, 6g protein

Beware of vendors selling warm candied nuts! True, they're delicious, but people (like us!) tend to overeat them. That's why we're THRILLED that Emerald Nuts has a line of 100-calorie packs on the way that includes the beloved Cocoa Roast Almonds. These nuts are insanely good -- nutty and crunchy with a hint of cocoa-y sweetness. You'll have to portion them out yourself until January, when the 100-cal packs are set to debut -- but it's worth it!

Recipe Round-Up!

* It's that turkey time of year, and we've got a turkey burger recipe that will blow your mind! Swiss cheese, grilled baby bellas... Click now for our 2-Beautiful Turkey Burger!

* Soft baked cookies are a seasonal must-have, but the average one packs 200 calories and 9g fat! Our So-Good Chocolate Chip Softies are a little like muffin tops, and they ROCK! Just 88 calories and a gram and a half of fat each, peeps.

The caramel dip looks quite tasty, but I might just have to eat it without the apple! I like apples, but for some reason eating an apple makes me hungrier. One question: why does HG keep referring to herself in the plural? It's too cutesy and sounds as if she's addressing kindergartners. Shouldn't it be, ' "I" love these'. . .etc.? Or if Hungry Girl is a staff of more than one, then it ought to be called 'Hungry Girls' or 'Hungry People'. That silly habit of referring to herself as 'we' is just annoying and makes it difficult to focus on the meat of her articles, which are usually good!

Does the caramel dip really have 7g of fiber on its own? That sounds too good to be true.

Kayanne, I think it's because everyone who visits the site is a 'hungry girl' because she is on an idiot diet. As a collective, it makes the readers hungry GIRLS and therefore it becomes 'we'. Just my take.

ya know, these all look good and everything, but there are alternitives to sugar that dont involve spinal cord melting chemicals like splenda and assesuflame k and all that rubbish. how about stevia or zylitol? taste exactly like sugar to me. and stevia is even sweeter so if you do like spenda, try that one first. also, if youre worried about your blood sugar, they dont spike your levels either. neither does agave nectar, which tastes just like honey. look them up, all are low glycemic! anyways, happy holiday season to all :)

The Caramel Apple Cinnamon Surprise sounds HEAVENLY. I love Starbucks' Caramel Apple Spice, and this sounds like the cheap, lower-cal way to enjoy it... Thanks so much!

there is just too many folk out there writing books under the auspices of promoting a healthy lifestyle -- yet are you seriously suggesting we eat crap like packaged caramel dip and apple suprise gels as a way to health? -- instead of reading labels for fat percentage and whatnot,be more concerned with things like artificial flavours, colourings, preservatives and the like, all of which make up the non-food you are recommending -- i hope you got a good kickback from the companies of lighthouse and alpine and the others you are promoting in this trite little article hungry girl -- people, wake up -- eat real food !
