Why not title this article: "Don't Eat Any Think From a Vending Machine"? And please, recommending diet sodas when your starving is just going to make you hungrier.

It is quiet possible that you are just thirsty though. American's thirst mechanisms are so weak that we often think that we are hungry when really, we are just dehydrated. Drink the water, then if you are still hungry get the snack.

I pack healthy snacks in the tote bag I take to work with me, avoiding having to pick from the vending machine at all. It's healthier, and cheaper, to bring your own snacks from home.

I'm lucky enough to where my office has a "Wellness" machine. It's full of 100 cal pack wheat thins, gum, protein bars, rice cakes, pretzels, fruit leather, and whatever else they decide sells. Of course you can never avoid looking into the sinful 'other' vending machines. Biggest threat? Those dark "Dunkin Stix" donuts.

Her list of "Ok. to buy" is completely useless. What if I really am hungry, and there isn't a cold vending machine?

I agree with Lauren! Besides people only eat healthy when there is no junk around, and that is hardly ever.

The problem is not so much in what you eat, rather it's in how much and when you consume certain foods that cause the problems. You can't go wrong with including the 8 glasses of water which will help in curbing your appetite. I agree with the fact that everything that looks healthy isn't.

Mrs. Freshley's Jumbo Honey Bun -- yeah, it's bad for you, but you can use them as weapons. Being hit with a dense pastry such as this from any distance could render even the most intimidating attacker unconscious or maimed.

first of all, soda makes you fat, all soda, even diet! Diet Iced tea? Are you kidding me? Tea is natural, just get it unsweetened, no lemon flavor, read labels! Say NO to high fructose corn syrup!!

It would not be so bad, but there are not to many healthy products in a vending machine..

jezusisafundie you read my mind---WHY would anyone handing out advice mention that a diet soda is a way to go in putting an end to your hunger craving???? WATER---WATER is the option...This article was a NO BRAINER. Plus, the article mentioned the fact on Big Bags. You can still get a single serving bag of chips and it won't kill you every now and then. Everything in moderation.

I know they are horrible, but I love those jumbo honey buns. I only vend about twice a year and one of those is on the drive to school so I usually don't have lunch that day!

your article is useless!!! you name 2 food items that are ok to eat and maimed like 15. Not to mention MOST offices dont have 100-Calorie packs or cold vending machines! You wasted my time with the hope you might have had something useful to say.

I read a comment that drinking a diet soda just makes you hungrier, that is not true for me. If I have a diet pepsi that is my replacement for food.

This is all mostly common sense. In today's hurried world, however, snacking is necessary to get through the day. It is probably very inconvienent to carry around fresh fruits and vegetables so we must choose SOMETHING! Any food product designed to sit in a vending machine is most likely to be packed with so many additives that will automatically lose any potential nutritional benefit. I agree with several of the comments above - If you have the need to snack go with bottled water until you can sit down at a resturaunt or make it home. Vending machines are about convienence not nutrition!

i read in a men's magazine that if you are going to eat a candy bar that snickers and payday are your two BEST choices because even with the calories, a lot of the fat comes from peanuts and those have protein,
