6 Cakes That Won't Bust Your Calorie Budget

Cake tastes good and that's that. But don't think (even for a second!) that you have to give it up if you're trying to drop a few pounds (or just to keep your jeans fitting). Hungry Girl's here with some guilt-free cake finds. Happy chewing...

Quick 'n' Cakey
When we need a sweet pick-me-up fast, these are a good way to go:

Hostess 100-Calorie Pack Cupcakes  They come in three flavors, but go for the chocolate (the best by far!). The cupcakes ARE itty-bitty, but they're creme-filled (yes!), you get three of them (yes again!), and they only have 3g fat or less per pack (maybe the best part). Go, Hostess!

Weight Watchers Snack Cakes  Each of these babies has 100 calories or less and a POINTS® value of 1, plus they come in fun flavors, like caramel (our favorite!), carrot, and lemon. Pssst... try freezing them. Mmmmmmm!

Short Cut
Want a cake-tastic dessert that requires only a minor amount of assembly? Throw together one of our Super-Duper Strawberry Shortcakes. Strawberrylicious!

The Real Deal
Are you ready to bake? Click on the links below for some of our best cupcake recipes. Each personal-sized cake has 135 calories or less and no more than 3g fat. Yay!

Red Velvet Insanity Cupcakes  All the down-home deliciousness of the Southern classic but with a fraction of the bad stuff. And sooooo pretty!

Death By Chocolate Cupcakes  These are fluffy, chocolatey, and they (probably) won't kill you, despite their threatening name. Dig in!

14-Carat Cupcakes  These cupcakes are absolutely PACKED with carrot-cake flavor, feature a super-light version of cream cheese frosting and still somehow only have 1g fat each! The average slice of carrot cake packs about 30g fat. Yep, we ROCK!

HG Tip: If you're counting calories, it's WAY risky to buy unlabeled bakery cakes and pastries. Since they don't print the nutritional info on the outside, there's less pressure for the makers to be conscious of calorie and fat counts. That typically means super-high stats!

I love the shortcakes. I buy a fat free shortcake at the store, some fresh strawberries and top with a tablespoon of fat free cool-whip. It's delicious!

Yes, but unfortunately those "unlabeled" items are usually homemade and taste wonderful. If you really want to forsake freshly baked goods from the local Mum's Bakery, go ahead and eat your 100-calorie packs.

I'm a big fan of the 100 calorie Hostess cakes. Admittedly, I was surprised at just how tiny they are. But like you said, there's three of them and they're cream-filled, so in this case, a little goes a LONG way.

Just an FYI to fellow vegetarians, the Hostess cupcakes (regular and 100-calorie) contain beef fat. The muffins are all safe, based on the ones I've seen and tried. I wish they would just use some other oil or butter because I loved Hostess cupcakes as a kid!

You know what is really good too, is Angel Food cakes. They don't have many calories and are really good. I put fat-free strawberry yogurt in with low-fat coolwhip (lite) and mix them together. Top it with strawberries and you get a very low calorie, cholesterol free and fat free dessert.

The hostess cupcakes are really a good way of just getting a bite without all the calories. My husband gave me crap when I brought them. But he didn't when he wanted one for his cravings. No guilt on my conscience. Iwas able to stop the craving. I saved the other three for later. It's 3 in a small pack. Sometimes I just need a small amount and that's all. Thanks for your web page,

I'm a diabetic and I always been told that the Weight Watchers snacks are best because of the calories. Have you EVER looked at the sugar in each serving? It is hard to be a diabetic and not have sweets, but there isn't a lot to offer out there.

I'm a frosting fannatic and I was wondering if you could come up with a low-cal frosting to go with the chocolate cup cakes?
