It would be easier if the switch out was a better comparison, like, something you can order, versus going to the grocery store, and having to make all this yourself and mess up your kitchen. I think that is the point of places like Mcdonalds and Dennys. No work.

I agree. Restaurant options would have been good to add in. The main reason people stop and get breakfast is because they don't have time to make it themselves! It would be nice to know "healthier" restaurant options that are avaliable.

jezusisafundie is right. 300 calories/27 g of fat is actually quite good for breakfast (Egg McMuffin) - esp. with protein packed egg, cheese and canadian bacon.

When I saw this had "satisfying swaps" I thought it meant at those chains, though I was sadly disappointed. If I want to go out with my family to eat on a Sunday at, say, IHOP or Denny's, I'd appreciate eating there rather than just sitting back and being like "No thank you, I'm going to go eat some HG's at home."
We get it, you want us to eat your food, but there are other brands and the chance of getting out in the world and eating healthy at chains. Please, aside from boxed food, could you give us "satisfying swaps" at, say, the chains your bashing for having some calories? Some of these aren't that bad, actually.

That's great about what not to eat ... but ok, what should I choose at Denny's or I-Hop. If I am out at breakfast, i am certainly not going to go home and make a HG meal.
I think this is half of an article and the meat is missing!!!!

I REALLY REALLY REALLY WISH McDONLDS WOULD SERVE THERE BREAKFAST AFTER 11:00 AM ON THE WEEKENDS , WHEN MOST PEOPLE SLEEP LATE AND EAT BREAKFAST AT SAY, NOON!!! ANYONE WITH ME ON THIS ONE?

So, the alternatives are just the Hungry Girl version? Can I actually order one of those when I go out to eat? How about some useful info? One star for you....

don't use yahoo news to advertise your idiotic cook book. people already know that they shouldn't eat fast food. and if they still do it, then it's their own damn fault for being irresponsible with what they are doing to their body.

This is nothing but an ad for the book.
Shameless one I might at that.
What you fail to mention is that breakfast is suppose to be the biggest meal of the day, so if it contains a lot of calories/fat, it doesn't matter as much, since you will burn it off.
The meal most people eat that should be lower calorie/fat is dinner. Since you sleep a couple of hours after you eat it.
Go sell your book elsewhere and quit acting like you really care about anyone's health!

That's all well and good if you're a woman. 1200 calories is halfway to my daily intake. I'm in great shape for a 47 year-old and I love Denny's french toast. This whole article sounds like one long commercial for Hungry Girl. I think the occassional 1300 calorie munchfest can actually be beneficial to a diet as it keep the body guessing.

TC, why don't you go find something you LIKE to read and stay out of here? How lame to bring your negativity in here where some of us enjoy Hungry Girl's posts!!
I'd like to see some out-of-the-house options too, but I guess in thinking about it, the point is that there are few truly healthy breakfast options, aside from fruit or yogurt or something. It's a pity...

This list is informative, but since most of the culprits are fast food/chain restaurant dishes it would have helped more to offer some fast food/chain restaurant alternatives. The reason people get Egg McMuffins at McDonald's or blueberry pancakes at Denny's is because they don't have time to cook for themselves!

Thanks for the info. I used to enjoy an occasional egg sandwhich from McDonalds, until you pointed out how fattening they are! I am also curious to know suggestions if you must eat out.

Knowing what to avoid has it's value. But something really helpful would have been a list of "diet pleasers" -- you know, fast food breakfasts that surprise you by actually being relatively low in calories or fat. Maybe they don't exist. But I would like to see someone look into it. You know... actual research for an article by the writer.

If you're going to advertise your wares, do it in an ad box like everybody else. I appreciate the whole calorie regiment for foods, but I'm a little unhappy that the entire thing is basically an AD for Hungry Girl in disguise

how about home made meals ? ... duh ! didn't think of that eh ? ... you can make low fat french toast and enjoy it too, you know .... and that little egg mcmuffin is just fine at only 12g fat and 300 calories, nothing wrong with that.
