So you wanna eat out without adding a gazillion calories to your day? No problemo! HG's got you covered. Here are some diet-friendly options (plus helpful hints) for almost any dining-out occasion...

All nutritional information based on averages for typical serving sizes.

HG Quick Tips! Go for brown rice instead of white, avoid the fried noodles, and use chopsticks (even the best chopsticker-handlers can't eat too much at once with those pointy utensils)!

Grilled Chicken Salad with Salsa - 240 calories, 3g fat
Black Beans - 100 calories, 0.5g fat

Good ideas, all, but ditch the word "dieter" already. It should be addressing a lifestyle, not a temporary reduction in caloric intake for weight loss only.

For the love of all things dietish - eat WHITE rice at a Chinese restaurant NOT BROWN. Brown rice (at a Chinese restaurant) means white rice + soy sauce + eggs. It is not "brown unhusked rice" and has way more calories. I agree with everything else though.

My favorite asian restaurant serves real brown rice. I get it with my meal every time. Just ask.

I think you're talking about "fried rice", not brown rice. I can get "real" brown rice at my favorite Asian place too.

The stronger taste of brown rice sometimes overpowers the main ingredients of a dish. And brown rice in sushi is just a crime that should be punishable by firing squad. I like brown rice; it's just that some dishes really NEED white rice.

This is silly, I came to this sight because I thought I would actually get some real alternatives in fast food. You named the restaurants and the dishes that were bad....why not name some restaurants and dishes that are healthy. If I want to cook at home, I can do that without your help.

So what do people do that have shellfish/fish allergies? I would love to eat shrimp, mussels, etc, except it would kill me. I guess that would be a permanent weight loss solution. Why no dining out tips for us?

This article would be much more helpful if she offered more options and nutrition info. For example, are the 4 things listed under Japanese the only healthy things one can eat there? What about some of the more common sushi rolls, or nigiri? Most are fairly healthy.

This is not helpful at all. For example, Steamed Shrimp & Broccoli - 200 calories - for how much? They do not list the quantity on anything? Is that four shrimp, six shrimp, five shrimp? You can't write an article about calorie count and not put in what the calorie count consists of?? DUH!

Just a note about edamame. Dont Order it! Stay away. The full order, that one person can eat, and it seems very healthy choice, because its green beans, has 400+ calories. You would never think. But it doesnt fill you up, and gives u gas and carbs, and sodium from the salt thats on it. It delayed my slim down by a month, because I would order it every time I had sushi, and I basically eat them 4-5 a week.

What about sodium amount? People don't realize how much sodium is packed into things and that ultimately makes it harder to lose weight, specifically water weight.

Perilous Pauline try "Eat this not that" its a book but if you even just search for the email newsletter you will find it really helpful. It lists every dining out place from fast food to sit down and it will tell you the best options on the menu. It will also tell you what on the menu appears healthy but isnt. I swear by it! I look up the resturant everytime I go out to eat before I go
